Nope, nuthin', nada. A few folks may have received them before they suddenly went on back order, but I ordered on 3/23 and haven't even gotten the full refund or 20% off next order email mentioned earlier. Makes me wonder if I'm still on the list, except that a lot of other people seem to be in the same boat. Despite that, I ordered a set of RED tools from him a month later, on 4/23, and received them within days. So the mystery deepens. But, to restate the obvious, no word six days after a promised update certainly adds to the unease.

Jason said he would send out info last Minday not tomorrow which has most folks that bought and paid for already upset. But he never said he would post an update on this forum. He only said he would email those who had placed an order. But if delivery is delayed then he should just say so.

Since this update seemed to avoid any mention of a shipping date, I requested a refund.

    Aloha,

I received Jason's email yesterday explaining that he had run into problems. I think he handled the situation very well by offering his customers the option to stay in or receive a full refund. I chose to request a full refund and he came through immediately with a full refund via PayPal. I give him a lot of credit for all the hard work he put into a great idea. Sometimes things just don't work out right away but he followed an idea to develop something that could be a very useful tool in the pursuit of fine cinematography for all of us. It's the pursuit of unique ideas that brought us these great cameras and Jason follows in that tradition of reaching for something better.

I sent Jason this note and look forward to using one of his Carbonite Scopes to film surfing on bright sunny days in the near future when he's able to overcome this temporary setback:

    Aloha Jason,

Thank you very much for your email and quick refund.

I'm very sorry you ran into problems but you've handled this very well in the way that you stepped up and and dealt with covering your customers. You've maintained your integrity and that speaks highly of your character. You're even more "solid" as a businessman in the eyes of your customers for the way you handled this and they will return when you're able to get production running smoothly. I'm sure this is only a temporary set back. I really hope you're able to get the Carbonite Scope into production in the near future. It's a beautiful design. You took a hit but handled it well and that's in your favor into the future. Take this in stride and carry on. As your business continues it's very important focus on quality. With very good designs - as seen in the Carbonite Scope, precision in manufacturing and finishing, and a high standard of control in production, you'll gain a reputation for fine products and build a strong customer base and a solid company.

Please feel free to contact me directly when the Carbonite Scope is in production - I'd like very much to purchase one. Do consider producing a larger 9" model as well for RED's new 9" Touchscreen Monitor. I think many RED owners may step up to the larger monitor and would like to use a Carbonite Scope with it.

    All the best...

    Aloha,
    Mike

    You're all class Michael.

Jason got screwed by a real Jerk. His Ex-Partner up and pulled out on him with little or no warning.. Then accused him of stealing from the partnership (which he has since retracted) then held over 20 carbonite scopes hostage and tried to blackmail Jason for them by charging $1,000 a piece.. This was after WE BEGGED him to keep his promise to the customers and ship the scopes out.. The guy promised he would in an email, and then one week later changed his tune, and tried to gouge poor Jason $1000 a piece or not send them.

Of course Jason is forced to work with a new company now.

I have kept my mouth shut up to now, but asked Jason if I could say a little.. I want you all to know this was not something Jason did wrong, or that he was being dishonest. We ALL work with the wrong people every once in a while, and it's tough. This all happened to him RIGHT BEFORE NAB.. He held that party, and kept his head up all the while he was just Shell-Shocked.

I look forward to Jason's return which I expect will only be a couple weeks away. And he's still cranking out other stuff as we speak.

He's a great guy we need to support him as best we can.

I don't doubt that Jason is a good guy. I spoke with him yesterday and he promptly delivered a refund to me. I will say that this is not the best way to do business. Product development isn't easy, normally never goes as planned and in some cases never gets delivered. It's one of the reasons that you shouldn't sell from an empty cart.

I hear you Lee.. But think about it.. The cart was not empty.. It had 20 scopes completed and sitting on the table and then ho goes to begin shipping and BOOM the guy he trusted and had been working with for a while does a complete 180 degree turn and he's left spinning.

Personally I think partnerships in general are dangerous (like marriage) some work, and a lot don't. I'm sure Jason will do some things differently the next time around.

But I am confident there was no ill-intent on his part.

I certainly don't feel that way either. Seems like a good guy in a difficult situation. I'll buy from him in the future.

We're also not really complaining about the delivery delay, we're used to that with red products ;) I'm was more pissed about Jason not communicating, and i can't put him responsible for that. It's annoying if you get total radio silence. If he had told this story, or just said there was a big problem, and at least a delay of 4 weeks for example, no one would really complain here. It's his lack of commutation what causes frustration, and just not clever of him, and no reason to do that.

But nonetheless good to know, sucks for him, he send out an email, so everything is getting back on track again.
