Dave - you should also check out these guys at RT Motion: http://www.rtmotion.com/ - small company ... customer-centric with good communication. I bought one recently for 2D and am very happy with it.

I have the Chrosziel Aladin II system and it's 3D capable (up to 8 channels) but I don't shoot 3D so can't speak to the 3D functionality.

I do, however, love it for focus/iris... very solid system.

I own the cmotion Cvolution 8M+TC, and am very very happy with it. We use this for 2D and 3D shoots.

RT Motion in GB has a Mk3 model coming out in April that looks very nice and is 3D friendly. Taking orders now. I am in the que for one, so have no personal experience yet.

So RT Motion look good units irrespective of price.

So what are the pro's and cons of Preston, CMotion and RTMotion from a Focus pullers point of view ?

Preston is the industry standard in North America, from a focus puller view, the lens mapping is a HUGE plus: Never change the ring anymore and you have the exact same markings for every lens: simply put , let say you are pulling from 6 to 12' ; you will always have the same rotation to achieve on the knob whether you have a Cooke 25mm S4 or a zeiss super speed 85mm. Price would be a con for some but you get what you pay for and this item is the most profitable in my kit. It just works and I don't have to call the AC to tell them about it, they just know how to use it.
Other manufacturers to consider would be Bartech with the digital receiver, another favorite among AC's (mostly because it is more affordable and most of the time , the AC's have their own).
If it's for a personal kit use, go with Bartech or RT motion or anything that would satisfy your needs. If it's something you will let go on rentals with different users all the time, I'd recommend a Preston.
As for 3d, the preston rocks, it's fully customizable and the few 3D projects I've sent it on were very pleased with it's performance.
And it will be compatible with the new Meizler Module for the EPIC, something to consider , IMHO.
