First VFX Science Fiction Short Film Shot on the RED EPIC

Hello REDUSER forum,
I think I've just shot the first VFX Science Fiction Short Film on the RED EPIC. I've scoured the internet looking for any others. I've only found one, but it's shooting was delayed til the summer of 2012. I contacted RED which was not able to confirm nor deny the claim, but did render a provisional 'Congratulations'! Our film is titled 'SLEDGEHAMMER' and was shot in February of 2012 in San Diego, Ca. Two questions: 1. Are we the first VFX Sci Fi Short Film shot on the RED EPIC? 2. If you are able to, please help us reach our goal on Kickstarter so we can make the VFX look as gorgeous as this EPIC footage.

I was wondering what was going on. I couldn't find any information anywhere. Are there any links to websites or other information about those short films? We've got our pipeline tested, just working to build better render support so that rendering doesn't take forever. Looks like our film's going to be 30 minutes or so long. Thanks for setting me straight.

Nothing online that I know of and I don't have any footage from either (or rights to share if I did). I'm also sure I'm not the only one to work on such projects, there have to be more out there. I'm as confused as anyone as to where they might be...?

I have a very modest-budget sci-fi-drama feature I'm prepping to shoot, but got hired to direct some animated stuff for now and that's going to occupy me for the next several months. Of the two shorts I mentioned above, one is a bit more of a comedy than try sci-fi, but there's plenty of FX and comped-in elements. The one I co-directed (just for principle photography), I have no fricking clue where that one stands. Last I heard, there was some disagreement and the money may have run out. These were both shot last year, one in august the other in october. I've been shooting almost everything on EPIC since getting my EPIC-M last May, followed by EPIC-X cameras.

Several months ago, there was someone posting on here about an upcoming Sci-Fi short they were producing and they posted concept art and other stuff. I think they had a kickstarter page too, but I don't know if the project ever got off the ground.

Depending on how fast you guys move through post and get it out there, you may end up with the first short of this type to actually see an audience. :)

Meryem Ersoz, actually looks like Similo was shot on three different cameras: "Super 35, Phantom Cameras, and the RED One.." -Mike Hedge

I'm asking about the RED Epic. We shot our film entirely on the RED Epic. Our camera was from a company that supplied RED Epics to Ridley Scott for Prometheus.

I can't find any information online or otherwise of substance showing that a VFX Sci Fi Short Film has been shot entirely on the RED EPIC, except SLEDGEHAMMER on Kickstarter. With all due respect even Mr Kilgroe's assertions are not substantiated. It appears then that we are all in a race to see who comes out with the First VFX Sci Fi Short Film shot entirely on a RED EPIC. I have substantiated that I have shot such a film. We are in post production with no empediments. Kickstarter would speed things up, because render times are quite high. Either way we are all firsts in one sense or another, but first to release is indeed where it counts.

I don't think Similo has been shot on Epic. Maybe some of the VFX reshoots last month but most likely those were shot on a still camera. I believe Similo wrapped before Epic Ms were even available.

I produced a sci-fi feature film (shot some of it as well), currently in post-production, on an EPIC and two RED ONEs, which wrapped last June, but it's not sci-fi in the futuristic or space travel sense - more of a mind-bending sci fi film - like Inception on 1/333th of the budget. inner space, not outer space, so much.
