I just asked RED and they are not offering any Battle tested these days.
I would hold off, if you can, until after NAB announcements. RED has held their cards on new announcements pretty close to the chest. But I feel like they are ready to drop a few bombs.
As computers become more powerful and the software continues to improve, the current Rocket becomes less crucial. I own two, one in a Mac, the other in a PC, and while they're nice, I'm not so inclined to purchase any more of them.
I do think we'll see a new Rocket card at some point. RED will have to offer something of the sort if they intend to keep improving on camera resolution and other aspects of the image. Hopefully if they do release another one, it will be more capable in other ways than what we have with the current Rocket. The current Rocket never had the ability to allow proper frame buffer access so we could use it for monitor output of anything that happened post-LUT application on the debayer/demosaic process. I would love to see a new Rocket that's several times more powerful and offers monitor output functionality on the level of what the DeckLink or Kona cards can do. It seems to make sense that something like that will happen, given the upcoming REDRAY and RED Projector products.
I'm not spending a dime on anything until I see RED (and other companies) show their cards at NAB. This is the worst time of year to buy anything in this industry.
As for Battle-tested Rockets... They come and go from the store, but they're usually snatched up in minutes if they do show up. I haven't seen any there for quite some time. They may not be offering them at all anymore.
It's there now, but listed as backordered.
There was a rocket card for sale on REDUSER $3500. Seemed like a deal to me. What's the cost on battle tested cards?
$3,000
there was a BT on the store a couple of days ago for $3000.
Just purchased a BT RR from the Store for $3K - it does happen. Next up is waiting for NAB to see if anyone has an answer to the Mac CUDA need
