Ok, this will be my most wild post to date, but I will try to make it short and to the point.

    Facts:
    -There are EPIC cameras worldwide
-Most who own their EPIC know how to shoot.
-Many who own their EPIC have access to equipment and crew that like to get involved

I propose a worldwide feature length film shot by EPIC owners. This would not only be the first of its kind, but an undertaking that would be historic in the business. Different shooting style and looks for all countries would be such an interesting mix.. Only rule would be 5K FF

The script will be a journey, something globally interesting. (this is the hard part)

The budget would be as little or as much as each owner would be willing to invest.

The payoff if done right will be an beautifully shot movie with global appeal, huge production value with worldwide locations, theatrical release, and make a boat load of money!

Is it crazy? Yes.. Possible? Probably!

Anyway, I'm crazy, and I'm in.

    Ideas would be great.

I'm an Epic owner, but why not pick a 4k res so that Scarlet owners can participate as well?

I might be up for it depending on timing and availability.

I think you need a solid concept to bridge or transition the concept....

Maybe a prop like a red balloon, a soccer ball that is always thrown in from the left of the frame and leaves on the right, a fancy hairbrush that each participant mails to the next or something...

Crowd sourcing on RU: starts out big and dramatic with everyone saying "Hell Yeah" then when the thread buzz wears off everyone seems to get back to their lives:

For the record, Josh, I was never trying to make a worldwide magnum opus. That was something which evolved from that thread, from the group zeitgeist. The goal of that thread was fulfilled on my end - to find a deserving and hungry young filmmaker and help fulfill his dream of making a film - without that person having to own a camera. My personal ambition was much smaller than what emerged from that thread.

The global excitement generated by the possibility of a worldwide project was far beyond my expectations - it was honestly a bit of a shock. And not something I was consciously trying to elicit. It just happened. I think your judgment of that thread is entirely misplaced -

I think if Justin wants to pursue this, he has every hope of making it happen - it will take strong leadership and consistency and a huge amount of organizing. He can actually implement all of the resources of that thread to make it happen - it's a great place to start. The energy and enthusiasm hasn't fizzled, in my opinion, at all. I just didn't move it along. I'm already a producer on four films this year, including the one which evolved from that thread and is slated to shoot this spring: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ilm?ref=search

If you collate those resources from that thread, Justin, you will have a great team all ready and eager to participate. And if you need any help from Colorado (on the shooting side, not the producing side! where I'm swamped...), I'm happy to pitch in. I would love to see somebody grab this ball and run with it.

The energy is absolutely there - it needs a galvanizing force with the time and commitment to see it through.

I believe sometimes nudges can move mountains. The monetary payoff, I am not so sure of. But it could be a great work of collaboration. If you need a slice from Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay), India, I could pitch in.

I worked on a prudential spot where 20dps and 60 operators filmed a single sunrise across the country on the same morning. Similarly, that project only used one camera - the 5D which was really a shame because shooting a sunrise involves so much latitude. But it still turned out awesome. This idea is so exciting, and classically, it just needs a purpose. good luck finding a story! Maybe about one person who is many people or one place that represents a greater archetypal place. Like the fairytale "The City" by Herman Hess. I've always wanted to do something with that story. Maybe more of a short film.
