    Hello everyone!

I use a beam splitter and the image from the bottom camera is mirrored.

Is there any way from the menus in the camera to mirror the image back to normal so it can be viewed correctly on my 3D monitor?

Or do I have to use some external hardware?

    Thank you!

current build of EPIC doesn't allow for this, but RED ONE does. You could use an AJA Hi5 3D or something similar to flip it after it leaves the camera.

Thank you for the information Jason,

I actually use two newly received Scarlet-X's (I wish I got the Epics soooo much!)..

I also want to ask you if you think it might be better to shoot 30fps vs 24fps for 3D. I read Peter Jackson shoots 3D in 48fps but the Scarlet at 4k will go only to 30fps.

I know it's a big debate when it comes to 24 vs 30 fps but I care only for 3D.

    Thanks

Hard question to answer. 30p would give you about 20% more temporal data than 24p but the heavy hitters seem to be debating 48fps vs 60fps. 30fps is not really part of the conversation. I would probably stick to 24 if you intend to do any international distribution.

    Hello Jason and everybody!

    Thank you very much Jason.

Another important question I have when you shoot 24fps with the Scarlet:

Obviously there is no choice of 23.97 fps so when I shoot 3D when I set the frame rate on the touch screen on the left side so I set it to 24fps as you advised. That's clear and done.

Then to sync I Must setup the frame rate under the project to match the frame rate I set before (24fps).

Should I set it to 24 fps or 23.97? I have some short and some long takes.

and that brings me to another question also:

What programs are suggested for editing 3D for a 2hr movie in 4-5k resolution? I noticed that you made a movie "Julia-X".

From what I see I think perhaps Avid MC?

I'm new to the Red as it's obvious. It's a step above from the 5dm2.

    Thank you,

    Ken Wilson

    Hi Ken
you can most definitely get 23.97 on the Scarlet. Set your project rate to 23.97, then select 24 fps on the framerate menu. You will get 23.97 timing. Upper left menu shows 24 because its rounded for space, but in lower left corner of UI you will see the project rate. Also set your genlock source for 23.97, 1080HD.
Upper left FPS display shows 24 for both 23.97 and 24.00 depending on project rate. Like wise for 30 (29.9 vs 30), 48, 60.

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. So it looks like 24 FPS in the menu corresponds to both 24 and 23.97, and same for 30 and 29.97, great!
