  1. #1 shared storage solutions
    Hi,

I was thinking it would be nice with a thread where people list their different shared storage solutions.

In the search for a shared storage solution to our office we find the vast number of options to be confusing to say the least.
Everything from big studios to small groups of creative people would benefit from some kind of centralized storage, so I think this list would be useful to a lot of us.

So I'm inviting all of you who have a shared storage solution to share it with the rest of us!

Please list what hardware & software you are using,
what kind of performance you get for your workstations,
and an estimated total cost of the storage system

    + any other relevant details

    Best,

    Alex

For our prores422 / 4444 workflow and a small work group of two main edit machines and a couple of graphics stations we use GB Labs gigabit ethernet stuff. http://www.gblabs.co.uk/products/MidiSpace/#description

Cheap, simple to configure, fast enough, safe enough.

we set up a Gigabit NAS with two avid media composer:

    - 2 machines (PC) share one Network Drive via Gigabit Ethernet
    - only doing SD or HD offline work on the avids (DNxHD36)
    - they have a their own cables, own router / hub, no internet, etc.
    - CAT6 cables (it makes a BIG difference in latency)
    - it was a little bit of fiddling on the avid side, but it works
    - price: under euro 500,00 (including storage)

    best wishes and kind regards,
    martin

    Thank you for the replies!

I'm hoping a lot of people will continue to contribute to this thread so we get a good coverage of a range of option from easy 1Gb setups to more performance based setups like 10Gb ethernet, fiber etc.
I'm inviting all of you to share your storage setup! :)
