Interesting REDvolt Recharge Observation

So, I had my Scarlet running while I was working out a monitor issue - a single battery in the Side Handle. The battery ran down, power dropped and the camera shut down. I quickly removed the REDvolt and slipped it into the charger. However, the light first turned green, then red, then started blinking green to red. Hmmmm... faulty battery? Faulty charger? Both had worked fine before.

Noticing the battery felt a little warm, I waited about ten minutes and tried again. Everything worked fine. I guess the charger doesn't like to charge "hot" batteries.

Yep, this is true for all good chargers. They test the battery's temperature and don't charge when it is too warm. And batteries that have just been used are warm. So as so often: patience is a virtue ;)

I usually put a hot or warm battery in the fridge if one is available for a few minutes until it is room temperature before placing on charge. Didn't hear this from anyone, just my impatience at work. Been doing it for years with power tools as well as camera batteries and seems to preserve battery longevity too. Nothing scientific or anything, just seems like it.

Yeah this is fairly typical for power tool chargers as well. I know my Dewalt chargers do that when I throw a hot battery on them. Usually I just leave them on the charger and once they cool down they will start charging.

usually about 10 min of rest seems enough for the charger to be happy.

Yes, it's the battery temperature sensor at work. Whether you see that depends on how quickly you were drawing current.

Anyway, the pop in the fridge for a couple a minute trick is a decent one. Or wait a bit longer for room temperature cool down

You can leave the battery on the charger to cool, it should reset itself and start to charge when the battery is cool enough.

I'm waiting almost two hours, but battery is still blinking red and green :-(

None of my chargers resume charging once the Redvolt batteries cool down. I have to remove and replace for normal charging to resume
