Been running into the same issue, too. Michael, how was yours fixed; I assume you had to send it in?

Yeah this issue really bugs me. Interesting about the foam, I am definitely going to try something like that. I double down on Jason's question, does the mechanism seem different at all? I wonder what they did.

Do we need to send this in, or is it possible to get a replacement part? DIY.

I had this problem yesterday the first time, and with every battery (it was hot here, BTW). Pressing anywhere on V or R wasn't working for me.

I'm certainly happy with a workaround if there is one for me. Thanks for any input.

RED support just notified me I qualify for a "field replacement" (ie DIYS) upgraded locking mechanism for my side handle battery release. I am officially In The Cue. I presume if you have a handle, you qualify?

Thanks Stu, I will contact them. I like to check the forum first, as it makes the most sense to get answers based on experience first. :o)

I've never had any problems with my volts locking in my side handle, however I was recently notified that I qualify for a free replacement kit for the locking mechanism, and wanted confirmation of my shipping address. I was told that if I feel uncomfortable with DIY I could send them my side handle and they'll install it for free. So I would assume that everyone with a side handle will get this (free) upgrade.

Isn't RED great, problem solving kit for this minor issue is on the way, the information how to do it is nicely wrapped in a professional designed pdf. I love the way they "handle" (no pun intended) this. :o) Thanks RED team.

Also in the queue. From the PDF instructions provided in the notification email, it appears to be an easy install if one pays attention to details. I also got the impression that early Side Handles were the ones needing the upgrade.

Still, anyone with need for the fix should read the PDF before deciding to do the install themselves or send in their SH for Red techs to do the install for them.

One camera is a shoot... two or more is a production.

I have the same problem. I shot it on the video and sent it to RED support. They promised to send me "small piece", and told me that I can repair it easy. 3 week passed but did not got it :-) Will write them again... This is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U--fTsKGCYw

Received shipping notification for our side handle fix parts yesterday. It'll be a few days as I'm in the UK, but I'll post and let everyone know how successful it is. Can't imagine a clip for a battery is beyond Red's wizardry ;)

Our old EPIC-M side handle has never really been an issue, and seems better made than our later handles, but it might just be luck of the draw. The newer ones were OK at first, then got 'tired' and starting popping redvolts out after not much use.
