Ok, I'm new here. I've read a lot already, and it's all making my head spin. I'm about to working on a feature length film. Our producer/writer plans to get a RED EPIC, and a 1st gen used RED for about 20k. We've been able to price those pretty easily. I'm trying to figure out what we need editing-wise. We know we want to go PC, and we know want to go with Adobe products. We just don't know what system specs are ideal, and the drive space we would need to edit comfortably.

If this is not where I need to do this I apologize. Feel free to point me in the right direction. Thanks so much!

Not sure how much resolution you need for editing red footage, but for the past 3-years I've been successfully using a 17" 2008 macbook laptop to cut anything from a 30-second commercial spot to a 90-minute documentary. I do admit my workflow is a little different from most people, in that I edit everything using 720p proxies playing them off from an external Western Digital drives via USB.

When I have my cut done, I export my XML, and relink all the .R3D and export (usually 1080p). I do all my color grading using after effects (not in real time), but so far not a huge problem. I can get away with this, I guess, because I usually don't have any clients behind me while I'm working, and need changes in real time.

You might be better off searching for system specs on the Adobe or DaVinci Resolve sites

A Google search of RedUser will give you lots of additional hits on storage, workflow, RAIDS and media backup: http://www.google.com/cse/home?cx=00...50:nmlowi0wk0c
