Yeah, this totally has the potential to become THE go to Doc lens for a lot of people. I'm interested to hear more.

    Sweet.

    Buy? Not now.

Rent? Hell yes, for the right job.

But, wait to see what RED put on the table at NAB... ya never know... they must want to recover *some* of the investment in technology they made in trying to produce the Scarlet Fixed zoom...

WHAT A DREAMLENS! This is a lens absolutely worth 38K! (spec wise on paper, lets see how it performs, but spec wise it's a dream :)

    Me to.. :)

I'm curious how it compares optically to the Optimo DP zooms.

This lens has the potential to be great for run and gun, steadicam and handheld. But it needs more marks! They should at least add an index mark for: 60', 30', 18', 12', 9', 5'6" (can't see what else is missing). The spacing is pretty tight, so maybe a change of font is necessary. I think it's a good trade off though.

And why is the witness mark so thick? I noticed this on the Leica primes as well. For $38k I would expect a nice thin scalloped witness mark with no room for interpretation like the S4s and MPs. Fujinon had some weird marks on their prototype Premier 18-85 lens (3' 1/4 instead of 3'3", etc.). But they fixed it for the production model, so I'm hopeful that they'll get this fixed as well.

Also, I'm not loving the visibility of the focus marks on the dumb side. Hope they can modify the motor grip or offer a smaller non-handle motor to improve that. Hopefully, the front diameter is a standard size (95mm?). Curious to see the iris pattern and if the iris closes all the way.

P.S. I wanna see an anamorphic front element version!!
