Sounds really cool, but they are HUGE! Why does it need to be so big?

I don't think they're any bigger than the LaCie Thunderbolt to eSATA unit. Or not much. IMO, I think the thunderbolt to SAS and Thunderbolt to 10Ge units are going to be insanely useful. I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up the SAS/SATA model. Will be able to connect my bigger SAS RAIDs and LTO tape to a Macbook Pro or iMac if the need comes up. :)

The pictures make them look about 6" wide and 12" long. That seems huge to me.

it needs to be bigger in order to contain how much awesomeness it holds...

The tech sheet says: 9x5x2.5 inches for the Thunderbolt-to-6Gb/s SAS/SATA Desklink

Yeah, I guess they are bigger than I thought. Not sure why they need to be so big...

Still look like they'll be very useful.

    Two models:

    SH 1068 & SC 3808D

So is the only difference that the 3808 is also a RAID device? or rather offers this extra feature.....

....I really have not used any raid devices, but i think with all the 5k & larger content this may be a must and also for speeding up actual post work.....can anyone give there quick opinion here.....

I'm moving to an all mobile edit station now with 15" macbook pro; sonnet expansion for my rocket & one of the ATTO devices here. This new MBP is more powerful than my current 8 core 2009 Tower

Edit: i was originally going to get the LaCie estata device, but from what i can tell it does not allow 6gbs interface....and the ATTO device does seem to have this and more...

    Hi Michael,

Did you ever get it? How is it working out? Interested to know how you've set it up.
