It was a bold statement he made. He should've stood by his words and left it up. It made me proud to be a reduser and summed up exactly how I feel about other cameras.

Is this really important enough to justify the spawn of four new threads asking the same question; Why? If his intent were to make it disappear, would it not be rude to bring it back up?

I get the impression that post was more of a thinking out loud kind of post, the kind Jim writes without the intention of soliciting any responses or opinions from anyone. I understand why Jim would remove it, before it blows into something unwarranted like it sometimes around these parts

This is not an unusual occurrence here. Over the past six months I think I've seen a little less than 10 Jim-authored threads vanish within hours of creation. Some very entertaining ones, too... insights on RED philosophies, boisterous venting, and even some recent dietary advice. One of the little perks of frequenting the forums are these little firework shows in the wee hours.

Yes, this is a highly controlled forum but keep in mind it's the RED folks at the helm. Though thread disappearance might seems suspicious, they're usually written by Jim and I'm sure they're removed with his consent.
