You S.O.B. Kilgroe that fixed it. Pulled the card out, zapped the PRAM, re-seated card: About This Mac now says it has 8x link width and RedCike isn't complaining.
So Kilgroe Fixed It. I should have stickers printed up that say that.

I had the same problem and Kilgore's solution worked. Pull card, reboot w PRAM, reinstall card, reboot w PRAM and it shows up as 8x.
