I asked the US distributors today, at Manios Digital, and then again at Band Pro and both told me the Optimo 19.5-94 would be in the $65-69K range WITHOUT the zoom grip! Availability at the earliest would be late Q4, 2012.

The zoom servo handgrip does not mount to that lens.

All this speculation whether the new Angenieux Optimo Zoom Lenses would work with the New Dragon Sensor made me revisit my thinking with a little more thought.

First this is just SPECULATION on my part, but fairly well educated, from a filmmakers POV. If I were to use the OLD 30mm X 15 mm Image Size of the 5K Sensor, then its stand to reason that the NEW Sensor of 6K 30 mm X 15.8 mm Sensor Size would have an Image Circle of 32 mm; EPIC 6K (27.7 x 2 7.7) + (15.8 x 15.8) =1016.93 √1016.93 = 31.8893, it’s actually slightly smaller because it’s really not 15.8 mm tall but slightly less. There is no good reason why the need for part of the Sensor Image area would also be required by the NEW sensor, by how much only Jim and Gramme know at this time.

This would also allow for having a true 1:85.1 Aspect Ratio without cutting the sides of the frame; this would have the added benefits of wide lens to make the image wider and so forth. On the two Angenieux Optimo lenses they are both use an extender of 1.16x; that’s from the original Image Circle of 28 mm for the 4.7x, and 30 mm for the 12x; Thus the; 19.5 mm X 94 mm - 4.7x with 1.16 Image Extender T2.6- 32.48 Ø, Approximately $70,000.00; and the 28 mm X 340 mm - 12x with 1.16 Image Extender - 34.8 Ø T3.2, Approximately $75,000.00.

Anyhow that’s my OPINION; we’ll have wait and see when Jim decides to publish the final size, and how much of cut off the 30 mm X 15.8 mm frame size actually occurs. See how the extra pixels are squeeze into the new frame size of 30mm X 15.8 mm!

Jim already said that the pixel size is 5 microns that would give 6000x3160 pixels total count for 30x15.8mm sensor.
    I love even numbers...

Got a call that my 19.5-94 just came in. But now I have slightly cold feet... not sure the world wants this lens...
Anyone have an opinion? Any rental houses out there that need one for a show?
    Cheers,
    Harry
