  1. #1 Speedgrade Raw & DPX Workflow CS-6
First off - thanks Adobe for delivering us what looks to me the best CS release to date. Double thanks for getting Speedgrade into this CS-6 release so quickly after the acquisition. Hoping to get some additional clarification on workflow.

    1) Send to Speedgrade from Premiere. From the previews it seems that all media on the timeline is converted to DPX files. If we are working with ProRes proxy's for editing, how does the re-linking happen in Speedgrade to the Raw .R3D files?

    2) When grading is completed in Speedgrade, what is the best workflow for getting back into Premiere Pro? Certainly DPX files are one type of media, but is there going to be an XML to go with those files, similar to Resolve?

If there are any videos posted online about this particular workflow, I would really like to see them.

As you note Speedgrade is very new to the Adobe family. We did what we could in this release to have some integration. It won't be perfect for everyone. We are going to be looking for feedback as we work on much deeper integration in the future. For the time being. The Send to Speedgrade feature exports your sequence as a series of DPX sequences that you can grade. Premiere also exports EDL and Speedgrade imports EDL. Speedgrade has native support for R3D's and lots of other popular formats and their relinking is great.

    Cheers

So if I'm editing .r3d's inside of Premiere would I still use the Send to Speedgrade to grade my r3d's or would I have to export the EDL and then import that EDL into speedgrade?

so David, could you give your recommendation on this situation how to deal best when you want to finish s3d??? is there an option where you could have the 2nd eye imported after it got sended to speedgrade as dpx sequence??

If you want to stay live with r3d I would use the EDL

    Hi David,

I think we all understand this is a 1.0 release and there are going to be many enhancements coming down the line from Adobe. We are all just wondering how easy or difficult its going to be to make the roundtrip between Speedgrade & Premiere. I guess the obvious comparison to be made is Premiere to Resolve - Resolve to Premiere via XML.

Can you tell us if its equivalent to that? I fear the EDL a bit compared to the XML route.

    Thanks again.

Can't believe you guys integrated it as fast as you did after the acquisition.

    Kudos for that.

There's also a feature to export a LUT based on a "look" from Speedgrade to use within Premiere Pro and After Effects according to the white paper. It doesn't support masks/vignettes. This seems to be a good workflow and I'd like to know more about it.
