So complicated...In '09 I was getting 4K on a little CF card! I'm still winning....

Think about that for a moment; how exactly do you infringe copyright by allowing viewers to NOT watch commercials which the *networks who sued didn't even own the copyright of!*??!!

That one should be right up there with the 'Boston Strangler VCR' and 'skipping commercials is theft' quotes as the kind of thing that really damage our industry in the eyes of the public. I mean you can see how people can't listen to that kind of stuff and keep a straight face...

Anyway, the case was never decided; the owners of ReplayTV went into bankruptcy protection for reasons unrelated to the lawsuit, and the case was settled.

So, what laws in which industrialized nations make it illegal to 'sell a device' which skips commercials, in your opinion? And what's a 'device'? What if it's a 3rd-party software feature for a DVR or cable box? What if it's an open-source project that's given away rather than sold? (as all the hacks which added functionality to ReplayTV were)

You're a fireman by profession. Some of us need to make a living at this. You really do not understand this business at all or how hard it is to get real professional projects financed - if you were you would not be repeating Google's propaganda. (sorry, but you're a fireman - which is a much more noble profession than mine, but you are not really in this business nor paying your mortgage off it) Luckily lawmakers mostly agree. It's not illegal like bombs are illegal - it's that it violates contract law and terms of use of the content.

I'm a volunteer fireman. A professional volunteer fireman :-) I've spent a lot longer making my living in the computer and software industry than behind the camera, that I grant you; I am pretty new to this business but I'm making money.

Back on topic, I've been noticing used R1's with M sensors on ebay for aroun 8-10k lately. Only a matter of time before they get to 5-6k, and then I will finally be able to afford one.

Media and electronics equipment always depreciates very rapidly. I understand that red's are fairly "exclusive", but you can't possibly buy one and think it will GO UP in resale value, or even actually hold its value for a long time. This isin't a vintage ferrari.

So don't feel bad when I pick one up on ebay for 5 grand including accessories in 2 years.
