  1. #1 Opening a Premiere Project in FCP
    Hey Guys,
I've been editing a film shot on Red natively using the R3Ds in premiere. I'm bringing in another editor to take a pass on the project, but the issue is that he only works in FCP. Given he's doing it as a favor I can't really push on that point. So I rendered out the footage as 720P proress files for him, and exported my XML from Premiere. When I imported the XML to final cut it was disconnected from all of the footage and media reconnect couldn't find the files to relink to because it was looking for .R3Ds and not .MOVs.. So I opened up clip finder and ran a conform on my Premiere R3D XML to link it to the MOVs, but it only connected with a few of the random files sound, etc. files from the project. Is there a way to get my XML to reference the MOVs instead of the R3Ds? I must be missing a step somewhere in this process. Any help or recommendations for tools would be most appreciated!

    Best,
    Tanner

If the filenames on the new offline prores files are the exact same as the r3d files except for the extension, open the xml in a text editor and replace all instances of .R3D or .r3d with .MOV and .mov.

Be careful for spanned clips. If I'm not mistaken, it will link back to _001.R3D & _002.R3D instead of just the one transcoded file.

It did in fact do this, and it's stopping me from being able to reconnect fully... Any suggestions for workarounds? Or, is this one of those just sit down for the day and go through the 800 files fixing it things?

You could try offlining your Premiere project, reconnecting to the ProRes files in Premiere, then exporting the XML. If the spanned files are handled inside Premiere as single clips and are only linked to the _001 etc on the exported XML, this should probably work. And even if they arent, it's probably faster to just relink those spanned files by hand inside Premiere (unless you've got 800 spanned clips).

Try Clipfinder, I think it's still around.

I would also ask around on the LA Final Cut Pro User Group:

    http://www.lafcpug.org

Many helpful people over there, particularly those who have to go back and forth between Premiere and FCP. The other possible solution is: find a different editor who can stay in Premiere. In the long run, this might be the least problematic solution.
