Again... Thank You!
Yeah that's very good news, i'm very pleased to hear you will participate to this project. May be one day we will have all image capture devices within ACES.
well, it was I think brought by ILM and their OpenEXR format. What ILM is doing is bringing all their capture device (film/digital camera, film scanner, camera, etc...) from the "manufacturer color/lum representation" to a common "scene referred" color/lum representation. In theory in "scene referred" colorspace, the image captured with an Epic or an Alexa, or Canon of the same scene would look exactly the same. This help ILM blend together film, video, cgi, etc.
Now with ACES, the academy wants to make this the new gold standard for high end colorspace, like film scan in cineon was. So you capture with whatever digital camera, transfer to ACES colorspace and do your vfx, grade, etc and then you go to dcp, rec709 or whatever format you deliver.
You can visit the openexr website among others.
This is good news - really glad to hear Red is working with ACES.
Anybody have any other learning resources for ACES?
Jim
As I am sure Graeme has told you I agree with you and Graeme and am working to fix the ACES artifact issues with the academy
