    Hello,

Over the last few days I`ve working on the final color grade for a short film shot on Epic, and I`ve been running into the infamous "Quicktime gamma shift" bug when I export my timed ProRes 422HQ files out of RCX.

Even when working off of a friend`s broadcast monitor I`m still seeing the gamma shift after export. Viewing the video in Quicktime its a bit off, but when I bring it into Final Cut it matches the RCX grade perfectly, but after export from FC the grade breaks again. I`ve every fix I can think of, and I`ve tried going through Adobe products instead as I had heard they had less gamma issues when it came to their Quicktime export engine. For the time being I`ve been compensating with my RCX grade to offset the gamma shift, but I`m really hoping there is a better way to get around the issue.

I`ve some of the previous reduser threads on the subject, but they were all from a few years back, and I wanted to see if there was any new information/fixes for the issue.

Is there an alternative codec I can use? With all of these gamma headaches I`d like to avoid Quicktime for the export from RCX, looked into x264 a bit, but I`m worried about compatibility on playback on others machines as I would need to deliver the x264 file for HDCam strike and DVD mastering.

Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

Since Premiere is doing native, why use QuickTime at all? Simply encode the output for your target format in HDTV or cine.

If your target is a computer, just don't care. Their monitors colors are all over the place anyway.
