Mike and Rob. YOU'RE BOTH MISSING IT!

The story IS the job of a cinematographer. You're drawing a line that doesn't really exist. I humbly suggest you both rewatch the first two thirds of the Zacuto doc. Cinematography is NOT simply worrying about things like line skipping. To equate being a DP to being a pixel peeper sells the profession WAY short!

BTW, what pissed me off about the Zacuto shootout is that what I watched in the test exhibited none of what I listened to in the first part. That's why I felt like I just watched a parody in the vein of "Spinal Tap."

I actually meant to say what you do - thus my "melody vs. notes" comment. But pixel peeping is part of it, not the best nor the most fun part, but necessary for a truly refined result. And people can't get annoyed if there are places, like a tech forum (LOL) where people feel it's OK to talk about these things at length.

I spend a lot of time on my skills. I debate (I think calling it bickering is missing why it is fun) to relax.

That looks a lot like a personal attack. I hope I'm mistaken.

Yes, I cannot disagree with this. It's like musicians talking about instruments and their tuning. I can't tell the difference between violins, and I bet neither could many people taking double blind tests.

But that doesn't mean all that "instrument suff" doesn't matter. It won't get you seat in the orchestra pit, but why is it wrong to care about? It's certainly not, IMHO.

Bullshit. Try Roger Deakins for crappy footage. Pixel peep is easy, art is hard. Anyone can pixel peep.
