  1. #1 New ScreenPlane steadicam 3D rig tested with EPIC.
Last week I tested a few new "lighter" 3D rigs on my steadicam.

The BX4 was amazing for essentially a full size rig! (large mirror box, zoom lens capable etc...)

ScreenPlane has designed a steadicam specific rig called the "Steady-flex"

I had first seen the rig at NAB a few years ago in it's prototype stage. Finally it is in LA and ready to rent and purchase. Which means I might be seeing it on set soon.

So I went over to Camadeus and spent an afternoon checking out the rig in a ready to shoot configuration. I asked a few SOC operators friends of mine to come over
    and also check it out.

Ready to shoot it was an amazing 52lbs!! .... that's total sled weight (rig, sled, batts, monitor etc...). No gimbal clerance issues and first rig I have been able to dynamically balance.

I also did a video blog about the review. Watch the video here

I'm considering building a housing for it. Welded like the one I made for the dark country beamsplitter. Max depth mabe 40ft.... that will cover most applications....

lets see...how much time I have on my hands....

ha ha ha, we are still waiting for the charts shot with Ruby underwater, remember? :)

Yes, a small, easy to handle housing for this rig could be interesting for some applications.

    yeah....almost a "surface/surf" style housing....is what Im thinking...

I took the other welded hosuing I made to 35ft and no issues so... I think I can make it. It could be even better with the help some friends...lets see.

Don't have much time for anything these days. My race car is just sitting there waiting for me to bring it to life.....ow well.

    I do what I can.

Wow, cool. I remember seeing it at NAB and thinking it is a smart form factor! I am glad it came to reality.

    Thanks for sharing!
