I've seen Pirates IV, GWDT, Social Network and many other films shot on RED. With skill/talent RED produces a digital camera that is unmatched in it's capacity to produced the highest quality images available for cinema display. If you need a test with other cameras to see this, then.................

I just don't understand why other companies aren't doing what you do? Why do they have to bring out cameras with "meh"-specifications and a ridiculous price tag?

I just don't get it, they have the resolution now, but the price, RAW-specs and color science are stone age. How many years before they change the next step?

Well the good news is out of all of this is most of "here" on Reduser have already made the call on what camera system is tops. Some are fortunate to actually know through tests as well.

Currently Epic is top dog in my mind. That's my opinion and that's also what tests have shown. After Dragon lands at the end of the year it won't really need to be much of a discussion anymore anyways.

Resolution is not everything. But it is something.

Dynamic range matters. So does the "feel" of the image.

    Frame rates matter.

    Size matters.

    Price matters.

    Upgrades matter.

    Support matters.

    Community matters.

We are going to take down our offer to do a comparison test at RSH. The grief and complication doesn't warrant the effort.

I hope that everyone can do some testing on their own that includes all aspects of image capture. We just aren't up for the grief. We have better things to do.

There are lots of options for you to consider. I hope that RED is one of them.

Everyone who attended the REDuser party already know what the future looks like.

You could literally sit back and relax for a year and still have a huge lead.

    Don't sweat the small stuff.

Jim, when I got into post on this recent film that we shot on my Scarlet, I was blown away at what options were in front of me for the color timing of the RAW file. Optional paralysis, dare I say. Also, when I took a sequence that was in pro res (using the log and transfer option in FCP 7) back to RedCine-X, it automatically linked to the r3d's and blew my mind. Not only have you guys paved the way for the future, you've made it simple.

RED has amazing cameras but in all honesty its not the arrow its the indian... I was laughing at some of the reaction to the to the original post. People where splitting in two and losing their ish just to say that there is only one tool out there and nothing eles. C-mon folks have some perspective.

I am a major fan of RED but yikes folks.

While I wouldve liked to have seen the test go ahead (principally because I'd want to see Canon, JVC, Sony et al put their money where their marketing is), I'm quite comfortable that I soon I can go into a cinema and watch Prometheus and compare that against films made with other cameras - this is the best kind of test because the cameras of these big films were (hopefully) in the hands of the very best DPs in the business, and they should be getting the most out of the cameras.

If its a choice between these tests or Jim posting at 3am, I'm taking Jims posts thank you very much. They tend to be more inspiring and enthusiastic than any amount of internet-trolling over the minutia of Red vs. [insert camera here] testing and the the misinformation drowning out the genuine and practical facts.

4k+ resolution = my future. Jim said it years ago, and its still paying dividends to my creativity.
