A fairly simple and cost-effective way to make your shoulder rig.
This mounting method will fit both 15mm and 19mm rods, just make sure whichever barrel mount adaptor you buy can accomodate your size. The adaptors, the picatinny riser, and the grip pod all normally run around $10-$20 per piece. Not a bad deal even when you compare it to a similar rig like Redrock microShouldemount. There are also 90 degree picatinny adaptors so you don't need to purchase a handle like the x that I have.
Only downside to this is searching fot the right adaptor that suits your need. You'll have to do a little bit of looking around or grab a friend who loves modern firearms and show you around:-)

I've been looking into this also. My set-up includes The Clutch and some cage rails to start and then adding picatinny mounts for other needs. Aluminium gun parts are cheap by comparison to camera specific parts but not as easy to configure a working concept. I have found that 19mm is the best way to go for more compatibility with available parts on the market. Then there is the issue of time spent searching for the right part and supplier -this all depends on where you live. I'm in Canada so the availability of gun parts is somewhat dampened by the logistics of our legal system, especially when it comes to 'tactical' gun parts (fewer in country suppliers due to low demand). You also might have to modify some of the parts (bore out larger mounting holes etc) in order to make them work with 1/4-20 or 3/8 -best have access to a few aluminium working tools. This is definately a viable and economic way to design some cool camera rigging if you put some time into it!

Even if mail ordered? do you have free shipping with Amazon in Canada? it's pretty much how I get all my picatinny parts hehehe:-P
And I have had to drill slightly bigger holes for my picatinny rails that I screw onto the top plate, since most of these accessories uses screws smalled than 1/4-20. Barrel mounts need no modifications:-) but yes, to use these off the shelf firearm parts you definitely need to put a bit of time into it, searching and modifying:-)

Building and designing can be part of the fun and makes things feel more like your own!
Ya George, Amazon would be great if I was state-side but everything crossing the border is inspected at customs...and gun parts well...let's say the gov't is a little naive and afraid of anything labeled 'tactical gun' plus you have to have special gun importing licenses that cost $$ every year to renew...just a mess of problems for a few aluminium bits! It's easier to go to a local gun dealer and pay 50% more to avoid the hassles -if they carry such items! I just happen to be in an area with a large gun enthusiast population and many small machine shops around. This makes things a bit easier but still requires a bunch of fabrication involvement on my part. I like it though and see lots of opportunities for different camera rig set-ups. One that I've been considering is a tie-down configuration using sling mounts attached to the cage ribs for hanging the camera in a vehicle roll cage. Offroading anyone?
Any configuration that I do put together (that works good) will definately be shared here. Happy designing!

hehe yea i've been considering in getting a picatinny swivle mount adaptor so i can carry my epic around on a sling hehehe.

Too bad that Canada is so strict on these parts tho. they better not be flagging Red's Swat rail or x's Nato Rail haha:-P Which reminds me of this on Top Gear. If you havent seen this part you must watch it :-P
