I hope I'm wrong because I got a regular 800 but I now realize there's really no downside to the E. I've shot my M9 without an AA filter for years now and never had a single problem with moire. I'm impatient though so I ordered the 800 since I thought it would come first. I'll switch when I can get my hands on an E.
    Evin,
I seriously comsidered the E as well. What does your experience withthe M9 tell you about when moire would be a problem? Do you think it just ceases to be an issue when the sensor approaches the resolution limit of the glass?

I look at the incredible detail of the MF backs and wonder if, at that resolution, the moire issues worth worrying about. Certainly fabrics would be one of the most problematic situations for moire, but fashion is where many of the MF backs work.

An AA filter is no panacea against moire either, it can still happen if the right interference pattern occours. I have honestly seen moire once in almost 10,000 frames on the M9, and it was'nt even a shot I decided to print.

I ordered a D800 a week ago from my local camera retailer, a regional family-owned business in a small midwestern city. They are almost entirely a retailer, with little or no online presence. The D800 was allocated a couple of days ago and will arrive Monday, a total of eleven days from order to delivery. $2,999. Didn't even have to put down a deposit. They have sold 8 or 9 D800s so far, and the cameras have been arriving about two units per week or so.

Nikon has apparently decided to stand firm on spreading the love, rewarding smaller retailers around the country, rather than giving a proportionally larger share of production to the B&Hs of the world.

    P.S. Don't ask. They're not taking orders from out-of-state.

Hmm... That's very interesting. Perhaps I should look around for a small, local camera store in the area that might be carrying it.

And you'll get it, believe me. I did the same before (even if in Europe) and worked out.

Not sure how successful this strategy will be in the LA area, but should be quite effective in small-market, rural areas. The exception to this rule may be the rural American West, where this camera is certain to quickly gain adoption among landscape and, perhaps, time lapse and dslr video shooters.

Why does Nikon's online store show it's in stock?

edit: refreshed cart after posting this here, and out of stock. Damn, that was my chance to get it.

edit: made another account and was able to order and get an order confirmation. We'll see if they actually ship it.

Is this the product page that showed as being in stock: http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikon...ctID.249538300?
