I thought I'd contribute to the super moon craze with a bit of 5K action, this was with a canon 100-400mm zoom on a1.4x extender at 5K 12:1

Lovely. My little 70-200 couldn't get close even with a 2x converter.

this was on the canon 100-400mm zoom, with a 1.4 extender....plus I went down to 2K to increase the focal length again.

That's called pollution. Lol I don't think they have that over in Australia.

It's not pollution unless it's that polluted over the Pacific. This is a shot from Malibu, CA. It was definitely orange.

It's the Earth's atmosphere; not pollution. The closer the Sun or Moon is to the horizon, the more red they appear.

When it's low on the horizon sure. Same reason sunrise and sunset are orange.
