    Coolio. What models? Link?

The discussion is tough because the definition of "availability" is subjective. While some define availability in terms of early stage high cost availability, I would define 4K in the home more around ubiquitous availability, price, playback availability, home distribution, etc...but that is because I'm not producing a very high level yet. (hits own head against wall) Anything I do for the next year or two, I wouldn't know what to do with a 4K finish. For now...

The Red projector is out later this year right? $10000 for 4K 3D right? Out of my price range, but definitely way exciting.

Don't have a link, but it's the 55" Toshiba model and I'm not sure of the other -- I think it's the Sony 50-something inch. The Toshiba is already delivering to consumers in Japan.

As exciting as it is, I don't see anyone really buying them until there is actual 4K content to display. Sony's up-converting Blu-Ray player is all that's out there at the moment. And given the price of the Toshiba, around $9500, I may as well buy that Red projector. And I'm planning to do just that. ;)

Same here, I think there is a huge space for the RED projector. I btw just noticed the addition at timescapes of a 4k release ( http://timescapes.org/products/default.aspx - when I bought my blueray version I was wondering when there would be a 4k version ;) . From a channel perspective this is really cool, since I bought the blueray version of timescapes, I will also buy the 4k version after I get the projector. (i.e. allows future sales oppertunities, like I have a version of "2001" for VCR, dvd, and blue ray ... now I want a version of 2001 for 4k, when I get that projector). To me ... all the old 70mm stuff will be great on 4k, but there will be very limited amount of 35 mm and recent arri films that will benefit from 4k (basically the only stuff that has good 4k re-release potential is stuff shot on RED or 70mm).

Yes, we just added 4K versions of TimeScapes and will soon be adding 2560x1440p downloads.

Agreed. I'd totally spring for a projector over a screen.

Will be interesting to watch the transition. Whether it comes fast or slow and if there is a clamor for 4K content. And if Red dominates or if the F65, Alexa's successor (assumgin it is 4K), the 1DC, etc will ensure just about everything is being produced in 4K in the next year or so as the market eases into 4K.

Japan just successfully tested an OTA 8K broadcast. Did anyone catch that?
