    Is anyone using the crop, scale and alignment features in Redcine-X Pro to do any 3D geometry correction? If so, is it possible to:


    - start with original footage at bigger-than-needed frame size (e.g. 4K),

    - make any horizontal and vertical 3D alignment adjustments w/out sacrificing resolution (why should you when you have loads of extra pixel data),

    - arbitrarily position a 1920x1080 crop window within the larger frame,

    - optionally scale the original down somewhat, to get more detail into crop window,

    - export @ 1920x1080


    Thanks for any thoughts on this!

    Turns out you can do all this. Just have to think through the crop settings a little bit. Do the math on your crop budget to crop just enough to get the alignment you want, then export scaled to whatever size frame you like. Works great.

    David - I agree stereo alignment within Redcine-X works well - but perhaps just a bit cumbersome still. If you happen to be going the Adobe route, another approach is to do the alignment directly in Premiere - unbelievably fast and easy. I have been using other (more complicated and more expensive) software for quite a while just for the stereo alignment features. All of that is now unnecessary thanks to CS 5.5 or 6.

    David, can you provide the bullet points on your Premiere Pro stereo workflow? Are you using the Cineform plug-in? Thanks!

    A flame could do a really good job of this. You really want to remove keystone, lens distortion, and correct the geometry all in one pass with concatenated transforms. Maybe smoke on mac...

    I wonder if there is a CS6 - Cineform Neo 3d demo video out there . If I understand correctly, CS6 dropped the ball on integrated stereoscopic editing. Sony Vegas seems to do it OK , but I'd like to harness the optimized multi threaded R3D architecture of CS6.You can never have it all I guess !

    As long as we're in the CS6 suite...here's something to try out in AfterEffects. 3D Zoomhttp://realvision.ae/blog/2011/04/st...zooming-in-3d/I only wish someone wrote a macro or plugin for geometry correction and floating windows within Premiere.Yes I know stereo Tool box is available for AfterEffects for the MAC platform, but given that a lot can be accomplished within Premiere (mask for floating windows, HIT and Geometry correction etc) all in realtime, it would be a boon to have such a plugin in Premiere itself.Of course AfterEffects would be used for more serious footage correction. But basic corrections and prepping are best done in premiere.It makes utterly no sense that CS6 boasts "native" support for file formats, but then for 3D the first step is to transcode to a third party codec (cineform)

    I'm not understanding this fully.
    Is this processing the disparity and increasing it to avoid the 'cardboarding' effect mentioned as a possible issue ?
    I'm not talking about just offsetting one image in X to move it in and out of the screen space. I'm talking about computing the disparity and exaggerating it, something Ocula or Dimension tries to to.
    ( not without artifacts, is the problem )
