Scarlet is the underdog because of they way it has taken off with sales so face it we are the new buzz. We don't have to feel lucky or special or owe a company anything that made a product for us to use. It is our job to keep them on their toe to improve their products because it makes them work harder to produce even greater cameras.
If their cameras were garbage we wouldn't be here...we hunger for more and greater options, some of us can't afford the upgrade after we just made this huge purchase.
Rob you should chill with the kiss az attitude because soon your Epic will be out dated also and that's just the way the game goes. if they make a perfect camera that would be the end of RED. They protected 35mm and gave us 16mm and look what happen...someone invented RED. I just want to make great movies with a camera with great options and don't have to buy an epic in one years because my investment can keep me at a certain level.
None of what you say has anything do do with making a business investment (NOT just a personal one for the sake of art) and expecting a semi-reasonable financial return to last for a reasonable amount of time. Of course one day the Epic will be superseded, but if my Epic goes out of date too fast then next time I will not buy any camera and just rent like I used to. If everyone does this the camera business will take a nosedive.

For me this is my living - shooting/renting gear. Some of you see this only from the perspective of hobbiests, so of course when you hear the matter discussed as a business you get offended - "NO! It's ART! Go shoot something and post it on Vimeo!" I am not talking about my abilities as a cinematographer when I say I want my Epic to be worth more per rental day, than a camera costing 1/4 the price, just a few months after I bought it. My discussion here has nothing to do with art or talent.

A 34 K investment is not an art thing. How hard is that to grasp!?
