Could someone kindly explain in more detail what the process is for force upgrade process? I have tried the normal upgrade process and had a white screen appear several times when I tried powering up and so rolled back to a previous release build. I would like to give it another burl using the force upgrade process.

It will then ask you to restart, but only do so after 10 seconds and take out the SSD before you restart.

1) place the upgrade file of your choice in a folder called force_upgrade on the top level of an SSD
2) with the camera OFF, insert the SSD into the camera
3) power the camera ON
4) wait for the upgrade to complete (the green LED's will flash and the camera will shut down automatically)
5) power the camera ON and wait for it to boot up with the new version

The website now has 3.2.8 in a folder called force_upgrade when you download it.

haha dude I'm a director and a cine man..I could care less about renting because i would rather own it. that way I don't have a time line on when I have to shoot or paying out the az for a lens etc. Making movies is an ART! If your in it for the money, that might be your hang up. If you own your equipment you rule your own world baby.

I work for a living and when I take my hard earn and buy a camera I don't jump for joy until I can push that baby to the limits. What hurts is when someone looks at your footage and make a statement you shot that on a...... The love of it is when they have to ask and you say that wasn't a epic.hahaha I love it man so you can waaa until the cows come home ...its not what you spend it's how you spend it. If you bought a camera to rent out just to maket some cash then you are missing the big picture there ROB.

We keep the companies on their toes by wanting them to push the limits. After all if RED wasn't pushing the limits your little Epic wouldn't be able to do the great things that it does. Tell you what.. I'll give you my scarlet for your Epic then I'll school you on how to use it's son. you won't miss the camera because you have the big bucks to buy another one cat daddy.

You are mixing up art and commerce,. I buy gear as a business decision, but do my work as a D.P. and director not just for the money. They are two different things.

Your level of education, from your use of English, is rather poor. I think I'll pass on your offer to "school" me.

Matthew could U please solve the question if we got to get the sidehandle off from the camera when upgrading the FW?
I've done everything with the SH attached and everything's worked fine. After rebooting I've read "Upgrading attached ###" for a few seconds and the camera is working properly after that.

Rob. Do you think that your personal comments on other Red Users is appropriate? We can all tell the difference between robust debate and attacks of a more personal nature. I think that you have crossed the line in a number of your posts.

Rob, I feel the same way. Since getting back from nab, I've started thinking about the rental side of my business ( I do think of myself as a business, as any cinematographer should). I think that from now on I'll invest in glass as the camera business is totally saturated. I can buy a $40k lens that is good for at least 10 years as opposed to a $40k camera that is good for a year and a half. The 5d killed the camera rental business and now producers want a red kit for $300/day and some people are giving it to them. The one thing that will always cost money is good glass and I'm not talking about stills lenses of which I own plenty.
I own an epic and love it despite it's quirks but I'm seriously thinking about getting out of the camera game.

I think, sadly, that the Epic will be the last camera we ever buy. It's rental for us from now on if ever we need the next new thing beyond that.

The Epic does everything we need. Hopefully we will pay it off before BM releases something for $200.

How these threads tangent from being beneficial to users to forums for/against camera purchases and whether Epic has a bigger dick than Scarlet, I will never know or understand.

It is hard enough to follow the spiderwebs of useful information. No wonder there's a case for a paid-site.

Anyway. To return the thread about the update - now 40 screens or so deep.

I've just upgraded my M and it takes two to three re-boots to get my 5" PRO screen up and running.

Sometimes, I just get half black/half white and some bar-codish like stripes through one half.

The previous build even let me 'hot swap' from the EVF to the 5" - when I dared.

Anybody have any insights?
