With all the help and tips all of you guys provide to RED regarding this new firmware, I really hope that it'll change it's status from "beta" to "release" sooner rather than later.

I found an interesting bug just now...

I was using the jog dial on the REDMOTE (LOCAL CONTROL). I was switching through the display modes for the LCD(Brain) while looking through the BOMB EVF. As I was scrolling through, the screen went white and the camera locked up.

I rebooted and then the only option for the LCD(Brain) display mode was "CLEAN"

I then disconnected the BOMB EVF and reconnected the LCD and now all options are available again.
...too much RED on the brain.

Don't take this the wrong way… but you fully read and followed the instal instructions?

Installation Instructions for Build 3 v3.2.8 camera firmware:

    1. Uncompress the v3.2.8 firmware zip file.

NOTE: RED Watchdog (MAC Only) mounts the MAG read-only by default. Change preference to mount Read-Write before attempting to copy firmware to the MAG.

    2. Using RED STATION REDMAG 1.8", copy the "upgrade" folder and its contents to the top level of the REDMAG® 1.8" SSD directory.
    3. Eject or unmount the SSD, then remove the SSD from RED STATION.

    4. Power up camera and wait for camera to complete startup
    5. Insert the SSD and select SETTINGS >> MAINTENANCE >> SW UPDATE and confirm with OK

IMPORTANT: THE CAMERA MUST NOT BE SHUTDOWN OR LOSE POWER AT THIS POINT OR THE CAMERA WILL NOT COME BACK UP.

    6. Confirm camera shutdown when upgrade has completed with OK.
    7. Power up the camera.
    8. Go to the SETTINGS >> MAINTENANCE >> SYSTEM INFO and verify that the camera monitor output is - Version 3.2.8 and PIN (value specific to camera)

    9. Installation is now complete.
Can't believe I get paid to do this.
If I don't own it I rent it...

Thanks for the reply. I was looking in the metadata (both in the red player and in RCX) and didn't see the information I had entered. The fields were there, just not the data. I'll try it again to see if it works. Also since the option was there for a given number of frames as a head slate or tail slate I was thinking the information would appear as an overlay on the recorded clip for the duration specified. I can see that being a very handy tool for people if the camera overlays slate information automatically. I can also see people thinking it very annoying, but at least having the option would be really cool for guys like me. Could that ever be an option?

What you are describing is the intended behavior. However, at the moment only the camera side has been implemented and in-camera auto slate has not been implemented yet.

Although at 3K and 1K WS the Scarlet's doing 1/3.33 of what the Epic does.

Now, I'm not whining and I'm not demanding that the Scarlet-X gets higher framerates. I'm just trying to point out why people might feel it should be possible to get higher framerates out of the Scarlet at some of the current resolutions. The only thing that would make a big difference for me personally would be getting 50 fps at 2.5K or - if it's possible - at 3K HD.
    +1
I think 3K 25fps HRD is a fair request considering it was in the official specs; and it's only 1fps more than 24

Jaakko ! 50 fps at 2.5K or 3K HD would be amazing, not sure if it can be done, but for European customers 25/50 frame rates are essential
    for broadcast workflows.

I loaded this onto my Epic. Love the new arrangement of menus. LOve the Phantom power on Audio. This is a really solid build I must say! I was so excited I even posted on my Facebook, LOL.
    1K @ 400 fps is awesome, too!
I feel like the Epic is finally maturing into a good working camera.

Question for RED team - is there plan to allow lower compression ratio for higher frame rates in the furture builds, or is the relation between and REDCODE pretty much set at a standard value?
Right now, if you want to shoot 240fps, you have to use REDCODE 7:1 or higher I believe....

My understanding is that compression rates are currently limited by the media. When the faster 512GB SSD launches Epic users will get lower compression options.

46 pages related to a firmware update? I wish I had time to read these things....

A filter to just show official RED comments would be nice. :)
