Today was my first real test of 3.2.8 beta on my Epic X. I had one glitch in power-ups before this, and that was a white screen ONE time on boot, which was cured like another poster mentioned by replugging in the LCD. Phantom power also worked like a charm, and I had pretty good sounding audio on inside tests run last week. So far I've had none of the other problems people have reported with hitting record crashing camera, etc. Everything seemed to go very smoothly today except when my V-mount battery ran out, the camera immediately crashed and shut off, no auto transition to the REDVOLT in the sidehandle. I unplugged the V-mount from the power port, making no other changes, and rebooted. Camera started up fine with the warning about improper shutdown. I presume the shot in progress was ruined (though I've not yet verified that).

I know this failure to transition from interrupted power source at the external power input to REDVOLT in side handle has been an issue with many people under many different builds. Still obviously needs attention here.

I will comment more on this in other threads, but yesterday I finally sat down to get to KNOW the camera a bit since I'd never really dug into presets or familiarized myself with the shooting tools/aids. Yesterday I did that, particularly spending a lot of time with the new preset/key mapping that's part of this beta. I am beyond excited by the power of those features and the ability to map, say, focus near/far to the rocker switch on the side handle and dedicate iris adjustment to the front rotary wheel. When the algorithms, increment size, and customizable parameters of focus near/far are polished and fine tuned for the various lenses, it will truly be possible for a single, practiced operator to both frame and focus a shot at the same time with great accuracy and ergonomic and practical ease. I haven't yet tried it with the REDmote, but assuming it works as well as sidehandle, we are looking at tremendous remote focus/iris control RIGHT NOW, never mind what a REDMOTE pro will bring to the table in the future. Iris is still too course for smooth live transitions on the lens I used today (Canon EF 24-70L - not the new version), and I assume that's a limit of the lens, not the firmware. But it looks to me that, with some refinement, subtle, smooth focus pulls will be possible with the ordinary accessories for this camera.

I'm so, SO glad that I bought an Epic and have invested in the philosophy of RED. There are certain headaches with this path, but they pale in comparison to the quality and CONTINUAL EVOLUTION (for free!) you get from the product. Thank you RED team.:-)

jarred, i´m not one of these guys. i´m not asking about the same specs as an epic. i´m only asking for one thing: PAL friendly specs.
and this are 25fps hdrx instead of useless hdrx on scarlet.
50 fps instead of 48 fps would also be fine. but (in my case) you could remove hdrx 24fps from scarlet´s next firmware, as a european scarlet user i would not mind - because i´m not using it. i would use hdrx, if 25fps at 3k were enabled :-)

maybe the scarlet hardware allows this one frame at a reduced compression...

    cheers.

Pal friendly specs are a totally reasonable desire. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Either way please send a log file to support after you get your camera up and running so we can take a look (your log will still have important information even if you roll back).
Trent please help! I'm having to reboot a few times due to the white screen now.

It seems like a lot of owners are using this build as a release build and shooting projects on it. Please take heed of the warning when you download this build that it should not be used for commercial production. If your camera is constantly crashing, you are getting weirdness on the screen, your sound is out of sync, etc, then roll back to a stable build. If you lose footage, you have no one to blame but yourself.
If you are just testing, then thanks for doing that.

got my scarlet-x back from a 5 days rental. clients were very happy, not one single failure.
i gave them a 64ssd containing 3.0.7. as "rescue" and installed 3.2.8 at the camera - there was no need to "downgrade" the software.

my clients reported flawless working with 3.2.8. and were happy with the scarlet-x.

maybe it is easier without having the sidehandle attached ?

also on the epic: i had not one single problem with 3.2.8.

on the epic-x at 3.0.7 i have stuttering images and the camera hangs sometimes when i come back from the magnification mode...

but powering off and on, the problem is gone...

I've done a couple of shoots with 3.2.8 on my Scarlet and have had zero problems. I have, however, tried to avoid doing things that others have reported as being problematic (like running record until the SSD fills up).

while I thought the white screen on boot-up on our EPIC-X has disappeared after the force_update I'm getting it again now (the camera was only sitting on the shelf after the fw-update and some initial tests)... re-plugging the lcd-cable or rebooting the camera solves it. Everything else is working fine, all record modes work and so on - I've got a shoot tomorrow and will run on the beta as I've checked everything and get proper looking footage (with audio)... Anyway's -> I've always got the red-station and a laptop with all previous fw-builds with me so I can always roll back to a release version if any problems seem to get worse on set (it's not a "critical" shoot, otherwise I won't risk beta builds). I can't totally reproduce when this is happening - I think only when the camera is without power for a certain amount of time. After the first reboot it's not happening for like the whole day (with battery-change reboots and so on). No side handle (at all - we don't have one). Will see if everything goes fine tomorrow - but as I've checked the test-footage I don't see any problem (it's more like a glitch and not a real issue).

So ray is not "an ungrateful spoilt s__t"?

You really should be more careful when posting insults. 3k hdrx at 25fps is obviously a request from a pal shooter.

I suppose if you are looking for something to piss you off you can always find it even if it's not there.

Ray was big and wise enough not to respond to your idiocy though so I guess no harm done exept for all the noise your posts generated.

You have a nice day now :-)
