Are you asking about the integration time? I'm assuming you mean 1/24 second - 1/8000 second. The integration time is how long each frame is exposed for - it does not affect the speed of playback (like your frame rate does), but rather the exposure of each frame and the motion blur characteristics.
There is a checkbox on the bottom of the SYSTEM dialog which enables external recording only. The camera still acts as though it's recording and will trigger external recorders through HD-SDI just as it does during "normal" recording. The only difference is that it is not recording to the camera's media. We have safe guards in place so it is clear you are in this mode. For example the record icon is super imposed with EXT and you are not allowed to record in this mode if an SSD is mounted in the camera.
Well-said Rob !!!
I totally agree…even I can only afford a Scarlet at the moment, but I am grateful for what I’ve got.
Let’s learn how to get the most out of what we have before we claim it’s not good enough!!
After all photography is the art of expressing with the essential tool……the light!
One thing though……..perhaps is not fair to hit all the Wedding Videographers so harshly,….not all of them. After all it would not be a too bad idea loosing most of the armatures in that field ending up with, perhaps fewer, but more filmic Wedding footage.
These are some good examples by our good Tonaci.

Thanks for the info it would have been nice to hear that it would kick out frame rates like the phantom camera=) Epic one day I hope but for now I'm in love with being able to afford the scarlet and it's ever changing for the better features.
I know I shouldn't be surprised that some of you guys are asking for your Scarlets to magically have the same specs as an Epic with some sort of juju fantasy pixy dust firmware that switches your Scarlet hardware to Epic hardware.... But I must admit I sit here shaking my head in disbelief that some of you actually think that is a possible reality.
People should appreciate the power of the hardware they sit with already. I own both, I rarely shoot 100+ FPS... A Scarlet could do me just fine if I were just doing a movie at a time... I have plans of world domination, .... Damn... I let it slip... Anyway... Two different beasts but both beyond anything out there with what you can do with it... Please do not let the masses affect the loyal. We know how special RED is.
Some people are never satisfied, Jarred...
All I know is that I spent the last 5 years waiting for the chance to own a Red camera... since before the first Red One even shipped. Fast forward to now, I have a Scarlet. I'm just finishing up the color grade on my first commercial which will actually run in theaters before TV, shot 100% Scarlet... and the camera was bulletproof. The biggest problem the whole shoot is when I literally fell over backwards in mid shot and bumped the battery off while I was recording.
Naturally, the clip was somehow absolutely fine (WTF?!?!- Maybe there is some juju fantasy pixy dust in there, Jarred!)
The footage is fantastic. Halfway through the shoot this firmware comes along and gives me the 16:9 formats I needed desperately for some of the slow-mo work with a 16:9 target output. No issues at all with it.
I know that whatever you can milk out of the hardware you can. That's been shown over and over. If the limiting factors are what I think they might be, maybe we can squeeze a bit extra out of her, but 5K 1.9:1 or 16:9 isn't happening folks.
