Scott, thanks for sharing your solutions for others to see.

An observation I have is that both your solutions are dealing with the false color mode. If you were to use both of your solutions at the same time (for example, with one assigned to the A button, and the other assigned to the B button) there might be unexpected interactions. For example, if you cycled the exposure/video button to the step right before it returned to OFF and then started to cycle through your focus/edge button all the way back to OFF, the next time you press the exposure/video button it would appear to do nothing since you are already in the OFF mode.

A fix would be to tie the two solutions together into one solution so that when you are cycling through one of the modes the other button will be assigned so that it will start its respective cycle on the next press. I hope I've made it clear what I mean.

Again, thanks for sharing your solutions and I encourage others to do the same. I hope I've made the point clear that my examples are intended to be jumping off points for you guys to see what is possible.

Yes, the situation you describe results in two successive False Color Off commands, but that isn't a problem for me. I see the description of the executed command on screen so I know what is happening and I just continue to cycle the button. It's a simple solution to an infrequent or even rare occurrence.

I can see how that might be unacceptable programming from a professional standpoint, but my standards are apparently not as demanding. ;-)

It doesn't appear to cause a problem for the hardware.

How do we now set our camera to have the top rotary wheel on side handle change settings such as aperture with it only being highlighted and not actually selected. I really miss my cam doing this

The action name has changed. I'm not in front of a camera right now but I think they are called: slot: select prev/next. That action will allow the wheel to modify the currently selected slot.

Also, I believe there is a preloaded preset for alternate key mappings which maps the front rotary to those actions.

I've run through these examples several times, but I'm still unclear on the concept. In the case of the Scarlet, it seems to me that it would be useful to have the still mode key on the front of the side handle set the resolution to 5K, the frame rate to 12FPS, REDcode to 5:1, and focus mode to still (whatever that is.) The converse of that would be that the movie mode key would restore your most commonly used settings, say, 4K, 24FPS, REDcode to 6:1, and the focus mode to movie.

Is it possible to create a preset for both of these groups of settings and assign each preset to the appropriate key?

    Thanks,
    Curtis

That is exactly the type of thing you can do. You just need to create your two presets with the appropriate properties and then map those presets to the movie/still button.

I'm happy to go into more detail if you let me know which part you are unsure about.

My grasp of preset theory is definitely incomplete. As I understand it, I can create a preset by:
・ selecting the settings I want to include in my preset by setting them through the menus prior to entering the preset menu.
・ I create a new preset by selecting the “create” button at the bottom of the preset window and giving the new undefined preset a name.
・ I then select the functions that I want to include in my preset from under the various tabs. This will imbed the values I set for each function in the menus prior to entering the preset menu.

OK, on the off chance I'm correct so far, this is where my brain freezes up. Under the “Project” tab, of the functions I'm looking for, I can find REDcode, Sensor Frame Rate, and Project Frame Rate. [BTW, they might be easier to find if listed as “Frame Rate, Project” and “Frame Rate, Sensor.”] I have not found “Resolution” which I thought I would need for the 5K setting, nor have I found “Focus Mode: Still”, the default for the Still key. This makes me think my understanding of the theory is fundamentally flawed.
・ Once I make it past this hurdle, I'm unclear on whether I should also select “SH Still Select” from under the Key tab.
・ I then complete the preset process by selecting the Create button at the top of the preset window.
・ I have to then go to Settings => Setup => Keys to assign my preset to the Still key.

I appreciate the effort the RED team has put into creating this functionality and your time and effort spent explaining it; thanks,

    Curtis

You are completly on track. The only thing you're missing is how to map the settings to preset parameters - and that is really just a lack of documentation on our part. I'm out of the office until Monday - when I get back I'll try to put out a quick description for each parameter and let you know which ones you need for your presets.

The resolution is called Format I believe.

Hey, that works! Never did find "Focus Mode: Still" or "Focus Mode: Motion," but "Record Format" is the function used to set resolution.

Very neat. I can now use the S and M slider (that sounds a little off color) to switch all my parameters from motion to 5K stills and back -- my Scarlet is now a real DSMC -- cool.

I hesitate to switch while recording. Would that jamb up the system?

And this exercise has led to two more questions:
    1. How do I edit my presets after they have been created? If I highlight a preset from the Camera Presets list I don't seem to be able to access it. I see "Apply," "Delete...," and "Create..." but no "Edit."
    2. I noticed SH user keys 1-7 as well as SH user keys A-D and UI Softkeys 1-4 & A-D in the "Key" tab of the preset window. I assume user keys 1-4 are the keys on the top of the side handle. How do I access SH user keys 5-7 and the UI Softkeys?

    Thanks again,
    Curtis
