The preset files look like compiled executable object code. I don't think you can see the structure.

    Trent,

Would it be OK to attach copies of preset files to a post?

Would it be possible to establish a library of presets contributed by users? Would the files need to be certified by RED as virus and bug free?

This really worked for me to switch between Stills and Motion mode
This just make's Scarlet-X feel so much more functional and more and more of an awesome camera/tool
I felt like I was holding a new camera just as I completed these new functions ; )
    Honestly
I'm glad it worked. I was wondering if I had been able to describe the steps in a way that would be clear to someone who hadn't gone through the process.

Huh. I thought they'd be XML.

I think it would be a good idea to attach copies of the created presets. Unfortunately, since we don't have a preset edit function yet people will be stuck with exactly what the author creates. With the posted solutions others can follow step by step and customize as they go along (and learn how to create their own).

Presets cannot contain viruses or bugs - it is simply a set of camera parameters and their respective values.

Not sure if a REDuser library of preset files would be useful, but I attached compressed preset files for the still and motion presets.

First, Trent these preset and key mapping features are beyond terrific. I don't know what the camera was like before them, because I only really started to dig in to LEARN the camera last weekend when I had already loaded beta 3.2.8, but I already can't imagine doing without this level of customizable control. Kudos to everyone involved in working on these features, and please keep going!

I am especially interested in refinement of the focus features as mapped to, say, the rocker switch on the side handle (or REDmote, though I've not yet even tried that). I don't know what the limitations are in terms of particular lenses, but with the Canonf/2.8 24-70L that I used last weekend, I found the steps just a bit too coarse for optimal results. I think you'd want to be able to use both the technique of repeated single button pushes with small incremental changes and held down button for ramped or accelerated changes like on a broadcast lens servo. Don't know if the rocker switch is pressure sensitive at all, but a smaller step size of focus change along with some way to on the fly adjust the rate of change would make this an absolutely BRILLIANT way to control focus. Are you guys looking at those kinds of improvements at the moment?

Curtis , You Rock Sir :-)
Just applied your presets, just what I wanted my S/M switch to do, but you did all the work, Thanks!
I noticed it takes about 5 seconds for the preset to switch, so if anybody else notices that too, just wait a few seconds for the changes to take.

We are always looking at ways to improve the camera firmware and there is certainly room for improvement for lens control using the rocker switch. User feedback like yours is greatly appreciated and I believe we have a track record of incorporating user feedback into future builds.

I'd just like to add that, personally, I'd be willing to give up another key to adjust the size of the focus steps if the rocker switch cannot be programmed to vary the size of the focus steps as well as make near/far focus adjustments. I'd even sacrifice iris control with the front rotary dial to be able to fine tune the focus steps. If it was the only possible solution, adjusting focus with the rocker and focus steps with the rotary would be fine. And it wouldn't be much of a sacrifice: f-stop and shutter speed can easily be controlled with two top buttons on the side handle. To be able to accurately adjust focus with the side handle would be a fantastic boon for any lens, but I have a Tamron 24-70 that can't be adjusted manually when in auto-focus mode. This would be an excellent solution.

    Thanks for this, Curtis!

For anyone interested, they appear to be SQLite databases. Trent - any chance we can get some documentation on the possible values? I'd really like to whip up a site to generate these.
