I just spent about a half hour playing with the new way of setting keys and such. I'm really impressed- All the things I liked about SLRs and all the things I like about Red's controls have met, fallen in love, and had kids.
While I agree a way to set these up from a computer would be killer, as it is it's a great system anyways.

Very nice. Lots of possibilities here.

If in a future build you were able to add a function called "Apply Preset X and store current state to preset TEMP" that would allow toggling to a given setup without losing your current settings.

I suppose a workaround for now would be to manually store the current setup in a preset called CURRENT every time you changed anything, and have the release action of your toggle button be "Apply Preset: CURRENT"

Is there a way to assign control of focus distance to the rotary button on the side handle? Would be pretty awesome to pull focus using your thumb! (For Canon mount, of course)

Yes, there are key actions for that. I believe they are called "focus: near/far". At the moment the step size is fixed so you will need to play with it to see if it meets your needs.

Just did some key remapping with 3.2.8 and it's brilliant! Even the Stills-motion slider button is enabled now, so my thanks to everyone at RED!

I do have a few wishes for the future, though:
    1) An option to edit or replace a preset easily. For when I just want to update one thing in my custom "all settings" preset.
    2) On the Key Mapping "wizard" screen a note that tells what the currently chosen option does.
    3) On the same screen maybe a way to choose what options you want to see. Being able to selectively hide things like navigation/playback/dialog options from the list would make finding whatever you're looking for quicker.
    4) Two keymaps: one for playback and one for record and the option to automatically switch between them when switching between playback and record. I know I could map a button to essentially toggle between two maps, but then I lose a button that I could use for something else.

EDIT to add: Number 4 on my list should really be number one, since it's really the only one that I feel would be essential.

Love the idea of a way to create mappings/presets off board.

Perhaps RCX-Pro could include a version of the key mapping wizard entry screen that takes advantage of the greater screen real estate to include things like explanatory notes, a flow chart review, etc.

RED's "computer with a lens" approach to making a modern D-cinema camera has presented a few challenges along the way, but as the system evolves we get more and more benefits from the programmability that enables. I look forward to the day we can push even more custom info into the metadata, particularly from scripty.

    Cheers - #19

YES. Gonna try that out, see if I can get something working.

I like all your ideas. Speaking to number 4 we were thinking about adding the ability to assign a preset to certain camera events such as power up, start playback, start preview, etc. This should let you do some pretty cool things like keep separate record and playback key mappings.
