  1. #1 Help with filters
Now that I have my Epic and shooting at 800 ISO I have noticed that my ND filters are not delivering. I don’t’ know much about filters.

I have been stacking a hot mirror ND .9 and a standard ND .6 and it is not enough. Plus, the hot mirror does weird things to the color of the shot. I want to get some new ND filters and was thinking of a 1.8. Is there anything should now about how that much ND will effect a shot?

Schneider has some platinum nd's that have IR filter built in, I haven't used them but alot of people here recommend them. Yes 800 iso is a pain when shooting outside, especially if you want a wide aperture. You'll want the range of filters from 3-10 stops to be totally covered. 1 stop = .3 nd. Anything above .9 nd and you'll need an IR filter as well

At some point you are just going to have to accept that some color correction will be necessary when using very heavy ND's even with IR correction; it's hard to make a filter that dense without some color bias.

Is stacking ND filters OK. Or is it better to just have a set and use just one.

If you can, have a set. If not, stack. You can also use a circular polarizer and linear polarizer together. Rotating will make a variable nd. Use Schneider though.
