Anyone using the stereo tools in Speedgrade? Seems very promising - if I could just figure out how to use it - and if it could ingest R3D w/ the latest color science.

I can't figure out how to use it for the life of me, even after watching their online tutorials.

I'd be happy to answer any questions. A good starting point is also the old IRIDAS documentation at:

    http://iridas.com/doc/SGNX2011_UserGuide.pdf

Starting at page 102 is a detailed description of the S3D workflow.

Thanks, Lin... that IS helpful! Quick question - is there a way to insert two clips from different directories (like the typical R3D reel structure) into a stereo timeline?

As long as the directories follow the general conventions, say you have one folder Left and one folder Right and your RED clips are inside those in their original RED convention folder structure, Speedgrade will still find them.

If you need to manually assign an eye, go the the Stereo 3D tab, click on reel assignment and drag and drop the clip for the eye to the Left or Right placeholder to assign.

    Hope this helps!

    Lin,
i'm sure i have questions for you....I'll get to the manual tonight...i merely tried to open an EDL from prpro CS 6 and then opened speedgrade...went to the directly where my EDL is located, and when i try to open in timeline...my 29.97 clip gets a warning about not being correct base timeframe as what is in SG's setup...i see 24fps in setup below...but can't change any settigns there. Also, rebuild from Desktop feature--what if clips are on external drives?
I know these are basic things i ought to know, but i'm usually able to figure out how to load a clip....Im stumped for now....Manual reading tonight i guess....
thanks for dropping in on this forum by the way....your expertise is desperately needed here.

    Lin:

Thanks. I managed to use the L and R placeholders to move a pair of 4K clips into a stereo timeline. The stereo correction tools are really well designed!

Now I'm trying to render out a corrected 1920x1080 ProRes file (just to have a look). I can't seem to pan&scan or scale to trim away the margins from my correction operations. I THINK the timeline might be 1920x1080, even though the clips are properly recognized as 4K and they display full-frame in the Monitor tab.

Appreciate the help! I'll be looking forward to the "for dummies" guide.

UPDATE: Just found the Pan & Scan icon & dragged to the timeline. I think I've got it here.

I'm finding Speedgrade's 3D correction tools applicable at an earlier point in the tool-chain than intended. In fact, I'm ingesting into Speedgrade, true-ing up the geometry, squirting to DPX and moving to Premiere Pro from there. It's a bit bas-ackwards, I know (but it works). If only those stereo tools could be ported to Premiere as a plug-in....

There are some stability issues on my Mac Pro system w/ large R3D files in stereo timelines. I've had to trim long clips in RCX to get them to behave in Speedgrade.

Big question I have is if we can expect Red Gamma 3, Red Color 3 to be supported any time soon??

Anyone know where/how Speedgrade colorimetry modifications are applied when you press one of the color auto-match buttons on the Stereo 3D panel? Can the automatic modifications be modified or undone?

    Thanks.

The colorimetry adjustments are applied at the bottom of the color grading stack. You can reset them by pressing the 'Reset' button beneath the color match selector buttons.
