First post on here. Hi everyone. Very sorry to hear about these thefts. It's the stuff of nightmares.

From experience I am inclined to rely on police only for occasional roadside assistance. In burglary situations at best they are there after the crime, at worst they are the actual criminals.

The right kind of dogs are a good idea if you are a dog person. Wireless surveillance with cloud storage and battery backup is not prohibitively expensive these days either. However, the base level protection you can make for your kit is a re-bar cage with a very solid lock on it, bolted to the floor and concealed behind a false wall somewhere. Sure you can cut through the rebar with the right tools but it will either take hours or make a heck of a racket and still take too long to be logistically viable to any discerning opportunist. It's easy to make this kind of setup and it's cheaper and way more secure than any safe you can buy.

Personally I have seven big dogs that really don't like strangers and a lot of other security measures. There's a lot of desperation out there these days.

I sincerely hope some you get some kind of resolution to the massive loss here.

Any news over the past few days Daniel? I'm sure if they had caught him you would have posted something but...just hoping.

Bad News, The Oakland Police force has ONE person to investigate all accounts of theft in Oakland (he's a lieutenant on the force - he's busy enough already). Long story short, they don't have the man power to do anything other then file their report. Myself, or a third party, would have to physically hand the thief to the police to get anywhere.

Other Good News, I managed to do a citizen's arrest on a thug in a separate case who was attempting to mug passengers w/ his "crew" on the subway system in Oakland (BART). His three accomplices got busted for illegally using emergency exits in their attempt to escape/evade the police. In a way, I feel good knowing I did succeed in catching one criminal, and assisting in the arrest of three others.
Four thugs off the streets - I call that a win.
Vigilante! I love it. I actually just stopped a burglar from breaking into my neighbors apartment by holding him at gun point until the police arrived. I didn't realize until after I had grabbed the plugged barrel prop gun instead of the real thing. Could have been bad for me haha.

I still hold hope that the thief who stole your camera will be brought to justice. Seems like the Police aren't a very viable solution in this case.

If it is... will you end up with two cameras in your hands? ;)

Great News! Hope you get your stuff back and the thief gets what he deserves. Good luck!

I'm curious as well, does that mean you will get to keep the 2nd camera and have 2 now?
