Okay this is were you realize how one of Jarred's recent post might be more then close to the truth of things, about inflated cost of goods by other companies to cover the insanely expensive advertising that they do.

RED announces their 4K home RedRay Laser Home Projector, and now Sony is releasing ahed of schedule their Home 4k Projector... http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/4236...000es-hands-on but wait, RED's is under 10k, and Sony's? Well around double that, 20k!!

    So which would you choose?

He he, I don't need to think about my answer, even so I have a great 1080p Sony projector at home now, as soon as our First RED Projector arrives Sony's will hit the door... ;)

    This for under 10k?

    OR...

    This for double?

    DEFINITELY THIS!!

You'll probably find that the RED Projector needs extra accessories (like that lens) to actually be usable, whilst the Sony will work out of the box like all of their other projectors. By the time you factor those costs in the price difference probably won't be as large. And is it just me or does the RED Projector look massive compared to the Sony in those pictures?

Even after you buy a RED Pro Prime adding 4k, which btw yin current configuration you can use any PL mount lens you want, without considering other Lens Mounts and lenses, so its still would be over 6k in difference for an inferior product, so still no thanks.

Size is actually about the same, apart from the protruding lens on the RED projector, and the Sony been rounded on the edges, but for final shape and look or size of the RED projector, I'll hold any thoughts as I know how fast things can change at RED.

    Edit:

In fact at 520mm wide and stretching back 640mm and 22+ Kilos the Sony could be bigger.

but the main question is, when will red really make it available, and will we have to wait for it like everything else? Will red be as compatable to other playback solutions than redray? there are many questions. While Sony is sony. No matter how much I love red.

I'm not sure how you're able to say the RED is the superior product just by looking at the meagre list of specs that RED has posted and a press release / showcase by a third party on the Sony projector. You haven't seen the Sony in person so you can't tell how it looks yet - perhaps it would be best to withhold judgement until you can actually compare both products? It seems like the sole intention of this thread is to flame Sony's product based on price before you even know how it performs.

I personally have more faith in Sony's worldwide distribution and ease of use over RED in general, but that's just me. Your explanation for the apparent size difference makes sense though, the Sony's rounded edges is quite possibly what makes it appear more compact.

Doesn't the Red projector come with the Red Ray player? That is worth about $1,000 right there.

And isn't the RED Projector a laser? That means no focus. Right? When it hits, it is still in focus so you should be able to have a wraparound screen with no special optics. No?

From what the link to the Sony projector says, the VPL-VW1000ES also does 4K 3D at 120Hz through the single lens.
