Look around area, we had it on Red One, and now it's gone with the scarlet... that's an incredibly important operating tool, that should not have been left out. Whether its "coming soon" or not possible, I think any "professional" camera MUST have this feature.

Also, I can not get False colors, or any of the exposure/image tools to come out the SDI so the DP can see them at village. Also a feature available on Red One no longer with us on scarlet. The kicker is it will go out the hdmi, but not the sdi. Come on, really!? I'd like to know where in the process that decision gets made. Thank god I have a tv logic on-board in my package and an hdmi cable in my bag, problem solved.

5 days down, 62 more to go with this camera. Please fix these things soon.

I don't know Tanner. I would say many steps forward and a possibly a couple of steps back.

There are definitely many steps forward, but those two that I'm talking about are crucial features that hinder a professional and efficient workflow on set. The good thing is that updates are possible and things can be improved. It's my opinion that their cameras should not be released without these features and similarly important ones.

The Epic can output false color over HD-SDI with the right setting chosen, so the Scarlet probably can too.

Edit: I was wrong about this.

Alas, it does not, only hdmi. For now at least, assuming it's coming in some future update. It's simply a bug, or a negated feature. I can see RAW and MAGNIFY over SDI, that is all.

I dont know much about the scarlet, but don't you research these things before you buy something? Kinda like buyin a car and a month later on a road trip you notice your seats don't have heat like your old car.. Not the cars fault..

Also did you ask anyone at RED before complaining?

I did not buy a scarlet. I was hired on a production as the 1st Assistant. My job is to make the camera streamlined, comfortable and functioning properly so my operator and DP can do their job efficiently. These absent features make our job much more difficult in a fast paced television schedule. I called red and the two techs that tried answering my question had to fire up a camera just to find out.

For now, working hard and patiently awaiting an update.

It's a $10k camera. Why would you expect it to work like a $17k or $40k camera? All the Scarlet users suddenly want it to have all the features and specs of an Epic.

As far as I'm concerned the Scarlet should only be compared to an EX3 or at most C300, but since that costs 50% more that's not even fair comparison, even though the Scarlet is a much better camera in many ways.

So wait for an update, but if it doesn't come then I don't think there is a reason to complain about it personally.

I own both the Epic and Scarlet and happily accept the differences. If there weren't any I'd be confused.

I agree that the price point argues fewer features. But, I think those features I'm talking about just need to be there. Things like resolution, frame rate, HDR, Compression rates, etc. are reasonable and expected differences, but not simple user functions that are seemingly easy enough to implement. The look around being sacrificed I guess is comparable, if it's so the whole sensor can be used. But I'm not sure if that is or is not what's happening.

He's not asking for 5k 120fps... Chill out. Exposure tools over an existing output port on a camera should not be premium. HDMI and HDSDI are pretty configurable already so I can see an update being implemented for this eventually.
