It's better than the times when 99% sat vacantly looking at a television set, not even communicating with each other and getting brainwashed with things they didn't actually need:

Facebook has been good for RED. No facebook no Social Network.
They don't just take the money, they turn us all into indentured servants. Our generation(s) work tirelessly to create content for Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Linked in....
This is an important point to make. It doesn't matter if you willingly choose to join a social network, by IP address and cookies most people are being tracked and their personal profile built anyway. I *still* get ads for Las Vegas Hotels on most sites, weeks now after NAB. That was entirely determined by a third party who I never signed up with.
Honestly, I actually agree with Zuckerberg. I don't think privacy is important is terribly important. It's like the people who are afraid the government is tracking them with drones but buy everything with a credit card. "Umm, you realize they can just follow your CC purchases to know where you are right?" Privacy is dead. And in my opinion was a brief interlude in human civilization. 100 years ago everyone in town had all of the gossip on your comings and goings. This notion that we can disappear into the mass of humanity unnoticed and unjudged by our neighbors is a more recent expectation. Historically you had many multi-generational households. Grandma knew what you were up to whether you facebook posted it or not--she was there.
Sure Gavin, but moving to the neighbouring village/town/city/country would reset a lot of stuff for better and worse.
Privacy protection is not an isue until you need it...

(Counciously NOT protecting my tracks, but that doesn't mean I don't respect or do suspect those who want to/have to)
... spoke Gunleik and is spot on!
... and advertising ethics have crossed the border, the "targeted" ads are one of these "brilliant ideas", that turn against their creators.
Facebook is probably most similar to google. Since Google's net profit is 10 times that of facebook we can suggest that facebook's market cap should be 1/10 that of google or 19 billion. Since 19 billion is roughly 1/3 of the current market cap, facebook's stock price would land around 1/3 the current price, a little over $9.
