I was using the Canon 800mm and a .9ND to get this shot. I didn't want to use a solar filter because I wanted to see that ring of fire effect. Hopefully I'll edit something together to show the footage I got out there. I just wish I had more cameras rolling. Spent way too much time getting lost out on sandy mountain trails.

    Epic shot Joe.
Just worked a few weeks ago in the Arizona/New Mexico deserts and that would have been a great event to witness there with a landscape that is all about sun and lots of it.

Thanks Russ. Experiencing this eclipse was such thrilling moment I have decided to rent a Meade LX 200 12" to film the transit of Venus on the 5th.

I was having those same thoughts Joe when I shot the eclipse, that I wished I had a way to track with the arch of the sun and get the shadow coming and passing over the hour or so that it took.
    Good luck on the 5th.

I've managed to get the unobstructed peak of the Solar eclipse:

But the rest of the event was pretty cloudy...:

But in many ways the clouds added to the drama...

Shot on Scarlet in 5K HDRx @ 6 FPS through Canon 800mm f/5.6L and Baader Solar Filter...
The motion footage is a part of a feature I am working on, so unfortunately no QT's (for now)...

PS: And yes, those are sunspots, I clean my sensor on regular basis... ;o)
