    Hi Everyone!

I'm shooting a commercial in 2 weeks with the EPIC.
I'm used to shoot with 35mm Lenses with it, but never had the chance to try S16mm lenses on it.

I've heard that the Super16mm lens Zeiss 11-110 mm would cover 2K.
Is it sharp... I feel 2K is a bit soft when using 35mm PL lenses since you zoom into the lens.

we need to shoot some 240 FPS shots,as wide as possible, so i guess using a 11-110 S16 is a better move then just 35mm lenses.
Field of view is my concern, since Super 16mm is about half the width of super 35mm, i know that a 6.6mm lens would be roughly the equivalent of a 13mm lens on super 35, so... i guess using a 11mm Super16mm Zoom would be equivalent to 22mm on 35mm... But is the Crop factor on 2K really equivalent to Super16mm? or will it be more like...25-30mm?

If anyone knows about this workflow, have some footage, etc...would be much appreciated!

    Thanks a lot,
    Gabriel

My standard 16 Cooke 9-50 covers 2K just fine.
You may want to look at some of those Canon zooms; 8-64,7-63, 6-66, if you need to get a pinch wider. They are a little more susceptible to flare in my experience so be careful about that.
But that Zeiss is a good, sharp, modern lens that will work perfectly for you.
    Cheers,
    Harry

I wish the epic had a super 16 mode. I have the zeiss 11-110mm and it covers more than 2k. I usually shoot at 3k and extract the super 16 size which is roughly 2.5k. I also tend to rate the camera at 320 or 500 to reduce noise.

What is exciting though is that on the DRAGON sensor what is now captured in 2K....will be captured in 3K...if my reading of these boards the past month or two has been accurate....

I'd not shoot 2k for an HD finish unless there is a good reason to do so - high speed or you need very low data rate. 2k to me looks a bit soft / thin / noisy and generally weak compared to 4k and 5k. That being said nothing wrong with the lenses people are talking about. Zeiss 11-110 breathes like a jet engine....and minimum focus is somewhere near Hawaii unless you are in Hawaii then it's Japan. Like the Canon S16 lenses very much.

I think it sort of depends on your expectations. I think 2k epic blows the doors off of 720 Varicam which I was quite happy to shot for several years. 720 Varicam also blows the doors off of super 16mm film. So yes 2k isn't as good as 3k or 4k, but it is still very good.
