    Hi all,

as some of you already know, I have just made the move from Tokyo to San Francisco to join a new company, Golden Gate 3D.

I'm really happy to announce we are now fully operational with both an Epic stereo rig and a C300 stereo rig (for B camera and smaller budget productions).

We have a fantastic office location on Treasure Island, in an old aircraft hangar/studio that has seen many movies (Ang Lee's "Hulk", "Bicentennial Man", "The Matrix" and many more) shot here:

We just shot a beautiful 3D ballet performance in front of the Golden Gate bridge with Steadicam operator Pedro Guimaraes using the new Screenplane SteadiFlex rig with dual Epics and Ultraprimes, along with Benjamin Casias shooting our C300 stereo rig. You can see many behind the scenes photos of that via our page on Facebook (set to Public so no need to log in if you don't use Facebook):

We're really looking forward to making the Bay Area a premiere destination for stereoscopic 3D production and I personally am very excited by some of the stuff we have coming up in the near future! The Bay Area was after all the real birth place of film on the West Coast and with the amount of history and talent here (especially in VFX!) I think we can once again be a no-compromise destination for movie production, in one of the most picturesque cities in the world!

    Cheers from San Francisco,

    Paul :)

P.S. I will still be maintaining close ties with Tokyo and Japan, so anyone wanting to shoot 3D there be sure to give us a call - I'm only too happy to go back there for shoots and have a wealth of connections and resources to draw from, having pioneered Red cameras there!

    Thanks Ketch!

I just amended the top post to link to my announcement from last month. It was in the Japan section of the forum so maybe that's why you missed it.

    Cheers!

    Paul :)

It was a fantastic shoot......the Screen Plane Steadyflex rig was great to operate on. The dancers and the location was amazing. Unfortunately extremly windy but we managed to get some great shots regardless.

Setup I was flying was a total of 54lbs...(i added and extra battery to let me collapse my post a bit more than on my test which was 52lbs.)

    ScreenPlane Steady-Flex Rig
Cmotion Cvolution lens & rig control
    Ultra Prime lens 24mm
    RED EPIC

It was great to work with Paul and Peter and everyone from GoldenGate 3D. I look forward to great things from them!

Fantastic stills guys! Thank the photographer for me!

See ya on the next one!!

Was great working with you too Pedro! Thanks also for the awesome feedback on the rig. Agreed on it being the best one out there for Steadicam :)

See you again soon I hope.

    Cheers from San Francisco,

    Paul :)

Its great to get Golden Gate 3D rock n' rollin' ;)

We've had the company in stealth mode development for about a year now - then just before NAB we rolled out the press release announcing the new company. We've assembled a talented and excited nucleus of people from diverse backgrounds, with a wide variety of skill sets.

Our 3D field tests have been going on for months now behind the scenes. Its taken months of research and field trials to hone down our equipment kits, learn additional skills, and get ready to launch. Its been fun!

I'm way stoked we're at the point where we could get Paul moved across the "pond" to the Bay Area. Now for this ballet production its way cool that we were able to bring in Pedro with his deep 3D experience and skills to work his magic.

To be clear, though I have deep experience in 2D production, I'm not a stereographer yet. But I've been working with Peter, Paul, and others to get up to speed on it. I've been on the 3D wavelength for about 5 years now though. I had the privilege on September 2, 2007 of co-producing the world's first shipping Red camera 3D production. We used my Red One 0008, and Billy Summers Red One 0013 on a Paracam rig at Paradise FX to produce a Red 3D short, which was quickly edited on location by Lucas Wilson. Fun stuff!

I love setting the bar high and continually learning new skills and equipment - that's what really buzzes me ;)

I'll continue to be based on my ranch in Southern Utah, and fly out of Las Vegas to work anywhere needed. Its also a quick flight from Las Vegas to Oakland for me to get to our GG3D Bay Area home office as needed.

Though 3D is our emphasis we also have deep experience and capabilities in 2D production, and will continue to do 2D as the need arises. Beyond stereography and cinematography, we also do still photography, including some killer time lapse photography.

I've attached below some behind the scenes photos shot with a simple point and shoot camera as we had fun sharpening our 3D skills with our Epic 3D rig.

We work worldwide. Watch Golden Gate 3D closely - we're on the 3D radar now and about to skyrocket! Fun times ahead...
