  1. #1 New to RED Workflow with Apple
    Hi everyone,

I'm new to the Red workflow, just having got my Scarlet a little while ago, f*cking love that camera! I've got a problem with post, though. I just finished shooting a short and given the footage to the editor, who is also new to Red, and we're having trouble importing the footage into Final Cut. I read here and on other forums that Final Cut's log and transfer tool will recognize r3ds and transcode them to prores, but that isn't working here. I've basically googled everything I can possibly think of, and I still can't find a solid explanation. Are we missing some plug-in for FCP? Or is there another route? I'd transcode the footage in redcine-x but I can't figure out how to install the prores codec.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome Robert,
You need the Final Cut Studio Installer and whitepaper found on this page. Once you install the plugin the trancode/import process is very similar to importing numerous other file formats into FCS.

If you have FCP installed you should have the proRes codec. If you're going to go that route, you could do your transcoding in Redcine-X Pro. Check out the learning tools on the Red site for more info.
