Softer images without rocket, even at "full" setting?

Hi,
I just did my first "stills" shoot with my Epic for fashion, and this unveiled a new unexpected result when not using a Red Rocket:

The images processed (stills at FULL resolution/TIFF setting) looks conciderably more soft when processed in a Macbook pro without a RR than it does when I open the exact same footage in my 8 core mac WITH RR, I thought I could get the full resolution at a time penalty without the Rocket.

I have been through preferences, but nothing there.

It´s the same when we preview the images at 100% resolution, a conciderable more soft image without the rocket, same goes for exported stills. (The debayer settings applies only when you export movie clips through export settings)

Any idea if this is "just how it works" or if I can get the same crisp stills in my Macbook pro without the RR?

(Tried with Redcine X pro 13 and 14 + Redcine X 470 - same in all, also tried two different macbook pros)

The debayer algorithm on the rocket is different than the software debayer. I prefer the software debayer....:-)

I would recommend unsharp mask in Photoshop after retouch...

There is what looks like a fixed pattern when using the RR to debayer. This shows up as a waffle pattern in the image if you use nearest neighbor to resize the image. Everything is fine if you use something better.

I prefer the sharpness of the RR debayer.

I was kind of disappointed and bewildered in the studio yesterday - I knew I had seen better (sharper) stills out of my Epics with my RPP lenses.
Mostly I use my RR machine, but for this fashion stills shoot (on Epic) the RR really stands out as better, but now thanks to you guys we know we could tweak to get the same (or close to it) by accessing the Unsharpen mask (either in Recine or as Fredrik suggests in Photoshop) if a RR is not present.

Yes the software debayer requires more agrresive sharpening. I prefer doing this and leave the real sharpening within my timeline if I am working with 4k in a 2k timeline. I apply different sharpening depending on how much I scale. Same logic for when I do photography. I decide on sharpening based on the delivery size.
