I am trying to upgrade the redmote with the 3.1.7 firware and having a small problem. I have tried to upgrade on two different macs and having the same issue with last two installments of firmware.

When I click on the redmote.dmg file it opens adobe flash builder with a bunch of garbled text. In the finder the "kind" of file is an MXML file. Im assuming there is a preference setting that is wrong somewhere.

Has anyone had this problem and/or know of a solution?

First, make sure you turn off wifi on you mac prior to attempting to upgrade. Then, connect your redmote via usb, launch the redmote utility, and follow the onscreen icons. When you downloaded either the scarlet or epic firmware, it comes with the redmote upgrade utility. :-)

    Try this:

    1. Select the dmg file and type command-I to get info.

    2. In the Info window, at "Open with", drag down to Other. Scroll to System>Library>Core Services>DiskImageMounter.

    3. Click "Change all" button, so that the Finder knows always to handle dmg files properly.

    4. Close the Info window.

    5. Double-click on your recalcitrant dmg file, and it should now open properly. (And so should all the other dmg files you encounter.)

I'm having a different issue, I can't get the redmote upgrade utility to connect with the redmote. I have set it up with the right IP address on my mac through the system preference's network section and there it says it's connected. But it still doesn't connect in the Redmote upgrade utility ... any one have any solutions, am I missing something that is or isn't in the manual?

make sure to turn off any other active network connection despite the one needed, in my experience it's more likely not to work when there are 2 active network connections (doesn't matter what type - wifi/wired/bt...).

Does anybody know how to upgrade Redmote with new Redmote Upgrade Utility? Software seems very easy but I can not connect to Redmote connected via USB.
I just spent 35mins waiting for Red support to pick up call with no luck...

Today I was able to talk to very helpful Red technician. Simple answer is that you need to setup your network preferences IP address to 192.168.1.0 and Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
After that Redmote Upgrade Utility will connect to Redmote and you will be able to upgrade it. Simple but it was not in manual and I did not think of it.
Unfortunately, my Redmote still doesn't really work reliably enough to use it as wireless controller...
