My Redmote has never worked, just a fancy backend to the camera. It'll show everything that is going on with the camera if it's attached, but take it off and it's a hunk of junk. Neat looking though.

After installing the new antenna your redmote problems will go away.

I installed the new antenna on my X a couple days ago. I didn't measure it exactly but I was standing out in front of my house with the redmote in hand and the camera was inside the house. I was probably 45-50 feet away and the redmote was working flawlessly.

Well that would be a welcome relief because it doesn't work AT ALL if it's not connected.

The other big issue is with power. Only having an internal battery is so frustrating. I wish Red would come out with a backpack for the Redmote that allowed it to be powered by a Redvolt.

But then, I also wish that you could add a hard wire to it also. It's pretty un reliable, then it works and the battery goes flat. Not very professional.

you CAN use a portable battery pack to power the redmote....i've been doing that for a long time now....you can find a variety of sizes and manufacturers...mine lasts several hours and it was only $40usd...

also notice an email was sent out to epic owners for an antenna upgrade...so sounds like both your problems are now in the past. Good luck.

Does anyone know if there is an antenna upgrade for the Scarlet? And/or a solution for getting the Redmote to stay connected to the Scarlet yet?

We're having the same connection issues as everyone else:

-Redmote works when docked on camera
-Once Redmote is pulled off camera it looses connection immediately and says "BAD REDLINK"(even at close proximity).
-After that, scanning won't find redmote and won't pair with redmote.
    -Rebooting the Redmote does nothing.
    -Reinstalling the firmware does nothing.
-This has been happening for the last two firmware versions.
-This problem seems to have gotten more frequent within the last two weeks but wasn't much better before that.
-Currently running Scarlet firmware v3.2.16 and Redmote firmware v3.1.8 (as of this morning).

    What is "BAD REDLINK"?

It needs to be a system. A factory system, especially when renting gear. Because with all the different hobbled together 3rd party options there is no confidence in the system.

Redmote with backpack looks a lot better on the rental list than Redmote with homemade usb power supply.

Using a recently shipped (2 weeks) epic that i assume as the new antenna and i just upgraded the firmware and paired it with a redmote and found it worked like a charm. They upgraded the pairing system making it simple to link up. When I remove the redmote from the camera it automatically goes in wireless mode. I will test tomorrow how far I can control the camera. cheers.
