Hi everyone, I'm kind of new to this forum, to the red family and to stereoscopic production...

What would be your best advice to start learning stereoscopic filming, I've got in hand a scarlet and an epic... and a side by side rig,

I'm an adobe fan, on a pc... I'm using for post-production, AE, Premiere and trying recently the new speedgrade from cs6...

Have you guys found any good tutorial online, books, about stereoscopic production and post production.

I'd like to start from the pure basic!

Thanx a lot, im new to this, but id like to give it a try with those nice camera...

    cheers

My advice is to get your dslr and shoot stills....make thing real simple.....you not there to shoot awesome footage.....you goal is to learn 3D.

Setup a few model cars or dolls or something still on a table grab you camera and a slide plate and start understanding what focal lengths and IA does.....as well as angles and lighting. You would be suprised how much you can learn right at your desk with very simple tools.

I've posted about starting out here before and I made and article about it on my blog.....(i should probably rewrite it and explain things a little more but I have other thigns going on.....

Naturally you can use you epic/scarlet and a slide bar and take stills instead of using a dslr but..... with a side by side rig you limiting your IA and therefore limiting you learning potential. Shooting still objects with the same camera and the same lens and just shifting the camera over give you infinite IA choices to learn from. THAT is what will make you discover the effects of focal length and IA interaction....and put you on the road to becoming a stereographer.
